A proposed utility project along East Hudgins Street in Grapevine is expected to begin next month.

Grapevine City Council approved up to $660,000 from the utility enterprise fund during the July 21 meeting. The contract, which is worth $594,264 with a contingency of $65,369, was awarded to Fort Worth-based contractor RUTS Construction. 

Staff rounded the maximum expenditure up to $660,000, according to city documents.

The overview: The project will include new water and sewer mains along East Hudgins Street between South Dooley Street and South Main Street. Crews will install 1,500 feet of 8-inch water main and 1,500 feet of 8-inch sewer main along the roadway, per city documents.

Following the completion of the utility work, crews will reconstruct East Hudgins Street.

During the project, no traffic will be able to access the project area, according to city documents.

Looking ahead: Construction is expected to begin in mid-August and the contractor has 75 calendar days to complete the project, per city documents.

The final round of renovations within Weinberger’s Deli in Grapevine is expected to start in late July.

What's happening: John Kirkpatrick, the day manager at Weinberger’s, said there will be a temporary closure July 27-31, with plans to reopen for customers Aug. 1. The renovations will include expanding the kitchen to allow for extra equipment and more room for staff, the installation of a radio and lighting, and the addition of a coffee and tea brewing station.

With the extra kitchen space, the restaurant will be able to add equipment to store ingredients that will be used for breakfast options, Kirkpatrick said. Weinberger’s plans to add breakfast items to the menu in August or early September, he added.

Harry Potter has been confirmed as the theme for the 2026 ice! experience at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine.

The display will feature 10 different scenes inspired by the wizarding world and will use 2 million pounds of ice to create the sculptures and scenes within the resort, according to the website. Each theme also features two-story ice slides and passageways throughout the experience.

The details: This year’s ice! runs from Nov. 13-Jan. 3, 2027, according to a news release. Tickets for the event are available starting at $33.32.

The experience, which is inspired by the Harbin Ice Festival in China, uses more than 300 Harbin-based artisans to create the sculptures, the news release states. The artisans spend about 40 days hand carving 60,000 ice blocks.

On-site, the experience is kept at 9 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the ice sculptures.
