Richardson commission OKs Richardson West Junior High reconstruction

Richardson West Junior High is on track for a complete reconstruction to transform into a middle school after Richardson’s City Plan Commission unanimously recommended approval for zoning changes Feb. 3.

The overview: Senior planner Derica Peters presented plans for the $119 million construction, in which West and the Richardson High School baseball stadium, located next to each other, will swap locations. A new-three story Richardson West Middle School is set to be constructed where the baseball stadium currently stands.

The details: Greg Estes, architect with Glenn Partners and Richardson West project manager, presented the floor plans for the new middle school building, which includes a centrally-located cafeteria, elevated walkways, collaboration spaces and roof terraces. Career and Technical Education spaces, including a culinary arts space, robotics lab and editing room, are put on display by surrounding the open central area of the building on each floor.

Mavis Tire replaces NTB Tire & Service Center in Richardson

NTB Tire & Service Center on Arapaho Road in Richardson is now Mavis Tires & Brakes. Mavis acquired NTB in 2023 and the Richardson location transitioned to the new brand in January.

All services remain the same as before the name change, including tire replacement, brake repair, oil changes, flat tire repair, wheel alignment and state car inspections.

Medical City Plano $108 million expansion passes construction milestone

Medical City Plano Hospital celebrated a major construction milestone as its upcoming $108 million expansion tracks to finish next year.

The gist: The hospital held a topping-out ceremony last month, marking the completion of the building’s frame in its expansion to the Sarah Cannon Cancer Hospital patient tower.

The $108 million project will expand the hospital’s footprint by 131,700 square feet, adding four stories and 90 patient beds. The project is expected to finish in spring 2027, according to a news release from Medical City.

The expansion will also move the hospital’s ground helipads to the roof, enabling “faster, more direct access” to the operating room, the release states.
