As a new project to expand a data center nears completion, officials say the development could be a unique opportunity for the region.

The big picture: Four data centers currently call the north Harris County area home, including TRG Datacenters, where officials are working on constructing a $6.6 million expansion to the facility in Spring in 2026. While centers such as Serverfarm along Hwy. 249 moved into existing facilities and spaces, the new development highlights the Spring area as an access hub to the Greater Houston area.

Lieb said the development of data centers has generated concern regarding water and energy usage, but multiple developers are now relying on closed-loop cooling systems to recycle water and reduce overall consumption.

In their words: “There is an established tech community in northwest Harris County, which makes it attractive for these other tech companies to establish here,” Bobby Lieb, president and CEO of the Houston Northwest Chamber of Commerce, said. “Those businesses are still here, very prominent and employ a great deal of our local workforce.”
