McKinney council approves contracts for concessions, car rentals at airport terminal

McKinney National Airport has found vendors for car rentals and concessions at its upcoming commercial terminal.

What happened: McKinney City Council members approved resolutions Oct. 5 authorizing agreements with Enterprise Holdings for car rental services and Creative Hospitality Solutions for food and beverage concessions. The approvals come nearly a month before commercial flights open Nov. 11 at McKinney National Airport.

Creative Hospitality Solutions will operate a concession stand within the terminal seating area. The stand will offer coffee, tea, baked goods, packaged snacks and cold beverages, according to a city document.

Also of note: Enterprise Holdings will rent cars within a space near the commercial terminal’s entrances. The exact square footage will be finalized before project completion, though Enterprise is expected to have 24 exclusive parking spaces, according to a city document.

As lawmakers consider expanding TEFA funding, some public schools say they're losing money

Ahead of Texas' 2027 legislative session, the state comptroller's office has asked lawmakers to double funding for its $1 billion education savings account program.

The overview: The program gives participating families taxpayer dollars for private education and homeschooling, and officials said at least $2 billion are needed to maintain current participation in the program.

Meanwhile, some Texas families are raising concerns about their local school districts losing money as students leave public schools to participate in the program, known as Texas Education Freedom Accounts.

What they're saying: "149 students have accepted vouchers that were otherwise enrolled in Pflugerville ISD, [resulting in] an estimated loss of $1.2 million in attendance funding," said Stacy Harrell, a PfISD parent. "That lost funding will add to budget cuts that are already affecting Pflugerville ISD families. Four elementary schools [are closing], with the possibility of more."
