Pflugerville ISD earns 'B' in TEA accountability ratings

Pflugerville ISD's Texas Education Agency A-F accountability rating went up from a "C" to a "B" for 2025-26.

The TEA released the 2025-26 ratings for Texas school districts Aug. 14. PfISD scored 81 out of 100 possible points.

Diving in deeper: Per the data, PfISD has:

  • 6 "A"-rated campuses
  • 12 "B"-rated campuses
  • 12 "C"-rated campuses
  • 4 "D"-rated campuses
  • 0 "F"-rated campuses
The district saw gains across 11 campuses. The most significant gain was Timmerman Elementary, going from an "F" rating last year to a "B" rating this year. Westview Middle School also saw an improvement from an "F" rating to a "C" rating. Nine other campuses saw a one-letter-grade improvement.

Some context: The accountability rating system was established during the 2017 legislative session to provide insight into how well districts and campuses are educating students. "A," "B" and "C" ratings are considered passing, while "Ds" and "Fs" are failing ratings.

Pflugerville Walmart wrapping up renovations

The Pflugerville Walmart is finishing up renovations and will hold a grand reopening in September.

The details: The renovation will total $1.8 million and this location is one of 72 stores in Texas to be remodeled this year. The upgrades bring modernized layouts and enhanced digital shopping integration to the stores.

Upgrades include wider aisles and improved interior lighting, a refreshed pharmacy and vision center, and an expanded deli and food selection, including sushi.

The reopening will be held on Sept. 4 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. and include vendors, food trucks, refreshments and store tours.

WilCo to host Justice Complex project listening sessions

Williamson County officials scheduled two upcoming listening sessions regarding the Justice Complex project on Aug. 22 and Aug. 27.

The events will allow residents to provide comments and feedback on the proposed jail and courthouse in Southeast Georgetown, according to a county news release.

What residents need to know: The come-and-go events will not have a formal agenda or presentation. Both will take place at the Williamson County EMS North Campus at 3189 S.E. Inner Loop.

On Saturday, Aug. 22, the listening session will take place from 9:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., and on Thursday, Aug. 27, residents can attend the event from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The history: Commissioners originally purchased 255 acres of land in southeast Georgetown on May 19 to house a new centralized justice center.

While officials say the location would allow for efficient government services, near the new administration building and other government buildings, residents have raised concerns over its proximity to schools and neighborhoods.

Live updates: Local officials request larger role in data center oversight, regulation

The Texas House State Affairs Committee heard from power grid officials; data center developers and industry representatives; local government officials; cybersecurity experts; and utility companies during an Aug. 19 hearing on the growth of data centers in the state. Dozens of Texas residents also testified about the impact of data centers in their communities.

The details: Pablo Vegas, CEO of the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, said it will take the grid operator several months to audit about 200 gigawatts of data center proposals. ERCOT will request information from all large and medium-sized data centers that are expected to use at least 25 megawatts of electricity.

ERCOT and the Public Utility Commission were ordered on Aug. 3 to audit all data centers seeking to connect to Texas’ power grid. They anticipate completing that audit in late November or early December, Vegas said.
