Project filed for future pickleball facility in east Round Rock

A new pickleball venue might be on the way in Round Rock. 

What you need to know: Project information filed with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation shows plans for a 15,510 square-foot facility to be constructed near Red Bud Lane in Round Rock for a future location of Paddle House, a pickleball facility. 

Remember this?: Several Pickleball facilities have opened in the area in recent years, including The Picklr in Round Rock, as well as Pickleland and Pickelball Kingdom in Pflugerville.

Round Rock ISD superintendent contract extended through 2029

Round Rock ISD's superintendent received a 1% pay increase and a bonus in January. 

What you need to know: Superintendent Hafedh Azaiez will continue to lead RRISD through at least 2029, after district officials voted to extend his contract Jan. 29. 

In addition to a 1% increase to Azaiez's base pay of $350,000, trustees also awarded him a bonus of $18,520, according to the district.

Ridge Crossing retail project now under construction near Pflugerville’s Blackhawk community

Construction is underway on Ridge Crossing, a neighborhood retail development planned near the Blackhawk community in Pflugerville.

The details: The development, located near Hodde Lane, will span about 21,000 square feet across two buildings and is expected to include retail shops and restaurant space.

Plans for Ridge Crossing also call for a central outdoor play area designed to serve families, featuring glow-in-the-dark elements intended for children of all ages.

3D-printing company expands footprint in Pflugerville

EOS North America, an industrial 3D-printing company, is expanding its reach in Central Texas with plans to grow its Pflugerville campus as well as construct a new warehouse in Belton, according to a news release.

The overview: The company is investing $3 million into its facilities, meant to help increase the production of its metal additive manufacturing systems and speed up its delivery times.

The expansion includes a dedicated powder handling area and an in-house machine shop, as well as the creation of 10 new jobs at its Pflugerville production site. These jobs include engineering, quality assurance and machine commissioning roles. EOS’s metal 3D-printing systems provide support to a variety of industries, including the aerospace, medical and automotive sectors.

Toll roads, new lanes: 6 Austin metro transportation project updates

Check out six upcoming, ongoing or completed transportation projects across the Austin metro, including toll roads in North Austin and Cedar Park, various lane expansions and improvements for cyclists and pedestrians.

Upcoming: New Hope Drive expansion
The traffic changes come as the city is working to expand New Hope Drive from four to six lanes and open an innovative intersection design at New Hope Drive and 183A Toll.
Update: The project is in the design phase.

  • Funding source: 2022 transportation bond

Completed: 183 North Mobility Project northbound connector
The project includes the construction of two express lanes in each direction on US 183.
Update: The northbound direct connector opened Jan. 31 following the opening of the express lanes Jan. 2. The southbound express lanes and direct connector are slated to open in the coming months.
  • Timeline: total project completion expected in 2026
  • Cost: $612 million
  • Funding source: federal funding, sale of roll revenue bonds, Transportation Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act funds
