Pet daycare and boarding service VIP Furbabies is now open in Cedar Park, owner Jeff Brubaker said.
The details: The locally owned business offers daycare, boarding and spa services for cats and dogs, according to its website.
VIP Furbabies prioritizes being “safe, clean, loving and genuinely fun,” the website says.
The business advertises several special offers, including a free first day of daycare for new customers and $99 unlimited daycare for a month.

Two candidates are listed on the Nov. 3 ballot for Williamson County treasurer. D. Scott Heselmeyer has held the position since 2017, and is not seeking reelection.

A closer look: The Treasury Department manages funds for the county, and primary duties of the position include maintaining financial accounts and distributing funds as directed by county commissioners.

Early voting for the Nov. 3 election runs from Oct. 19-30.

A drop in the local birth rate is being felt at the district level, according to Round Rock ISD demographers.

What's happening: In recent years, the number of students enrolled in the district declined from a peak of 50,953 in the 2019-20 school year to 45,952 students in the 2025-26 school year.

The details: Rocky Gardner, a representative of demographic firm Zonda Education, shared projections showing the district’s enrollment could further decline to 40,199 students by the 2035-36 school year. Gardner said that generally, people are having fewer children, which has a direct impact on the state’s attendance-based funding model.

The impact: This is a trend observed across the country, RRISD Chief of Schools Natalie Nichols said ahead of the 2026-27 school year, and not indicative of parent dissatisfaction with public education.

Facing additional budget constraints, the district is planning programmatic efficiencies if this enrollment decline bears out.

Texas senators indicated Sept. 1 that they intend to tighten regulations on data centers during next year’s legislative session, which begins in January.

What they're saying: “I think every member's district has had an impact from a data center conversation, so there will be plenty of bills trying to put things in place that are reasonable, responsible regulatory frameworks for data centers,” state Sen. Charles Perry, R-Lubbock, said.

The big picture: With some Texas residents and conservation groups sounding the alarm about water-intensive technologies used by some data centers, state agencies have warned that limited information is available on how much water the industry actually uses. Officials said they have also had trouble determining exactly how many data centers are operating in the state today, as there is no “comprehensive statewide list” of existing and planned facilities.

Estimates from state agencies and the University of Texas at Austin suggest that roughly 370 data centers are currently operating in Texas, with about 100 facilities under construction and another 180 being proposed.
