Road bond updates and other transportation projects underway in The Woodlands area this March

A number of road projects are underway in The Woodlands area, funded by the Montgomery County road bond as well as other projects from the Texas Department of Transportation.

Ongoing projects
1. Research Forest Drive at Gosling Road turn lane extension
Project:
The project will extend dual left-turn lanes from westbound Research Forest Drive to southbound Gosling Road. They will also be extended from southbound Gosling Road to eastbound Research Forest Drive.
Update: Work onto southbound Gosling was nearly complete, and utility relocation was upcoming for the other extensions as of March 11, officials said.

2. Woodlands Parkway at Kuykendahl Road turn lane extension

Project: The project will add a left-turn lane and extend lane storage from northbound Kuykendahl Road to westbound Woodlands Parkway. It will also extend the right-turn lane from northbound Kuykendahl Road to eastbound Woodlands Parkway.
Update: The left-turn lane addition was complete, and the right-turn was being prepared for construction after utility relocation as of March 11, officials said.

Nothing Bundt Cakes to open on Hwy. 242

A new location for the bakery shop will open in the Harper’s Landing area, according to a Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation filing.

Latest update: An opening date hasn’t been announced, but permits were approved, district manager Samantha Dickinson said. The shop offers full-size and mini bundt cakes in a variety of flavors and styles. According to the filing, construction will wrap in mid-May.

Shenandoah invites public input to address traffic concerns

Shenandoah residents will have an opportunity to provide suggestions to the city regarding traffic concerns following discussion at the city’s March 11 meeting.

How we got here: The Traffic Analysis Committee, formed in 2025 including council member Joe M. Summerlin, was formed to identify traffic concerns in the Shenandoah Valley neighborhood. The committee discussed approaching traffic mitigation in phases, beginning with neighborhood entry points and later evaluating additional locations, per the agenda packet.

Quote of note: “The types of things we were looking for were speeding, repeat offenders running stop signs and cutting through traffic,” Summerlin said.

Tomball ISD set to host budget workshop, consider district purchases

Tomball ISD trustees are set to host their first budget workshop March 16, presented by Chief Financial Officer Zack Boles, according to the meeting agenda.

Two-minute impact: As previously reported by Community Impact, TISD approved a $230.3 million budget in June focused on boosting teacher pay due to state funding. Deputy Superintendent Amy Schindewolf will also be presenting TISD’s District of Innovation plan. In accordance with state law, the district's innovation plan renews every five years. According to its website, DOI plans allow the district to be exempt from certain requirements of the Texas Education Code.

What else: TISD trustees are also set to discuss approving multiple district purchases at their March 17 regular meeting, including:

  • Student and staff technology devices for Tomball West High School
  • Districtwide network infrastructure upgrades
  • Gym floor replacements
  • Interactive flat panels for the Creekside Park complex
