Porter Barber and Beauty Shop marks 1-year on FM 1314

Porter Barber and Beauty Shop, a family- and Latin-owned business, celebrated its one-year anniversary in November, a spokesperson for the business confirmed via a Dec. 2 message. The shop is owned by Emma Coronado, Jose Briseño, Ashley Briseño and Angel Briseño.

What they offer: Porter Barber and Beauty Shop offers men’s barber services, including hot towels, shaves and beard designs; women's haircuts, coloring and waxing; and children's haircuts, according to the business’s website.

Some context: The shop was originally located at a different address in Porter, but had to close in 2020. The family also owns a barber shop at 20185 Hwy. 59, Ste. 76, New Caney.

Across the two ZIP codes that make up Community Impact's New Caney-Porter coverage area, data for November compared to November 2024 shows: 

  • Approximately 117 fewer homes sold.
  • The median home sales price increased in New Caney and decreased in Porter.
  • On average, homes were on the market for longer.
  • More than 70% of homes sold in November were in the $200,000-$399,999 price range.

Germany, Portugal and Saudi Arabia are three of the seven teams that have been flagged to play in Houston for the FIFA World Cup 2026 tournament in June.

Breaking it down: Seven total matches will be played in Houston, including five group stages and two knockout-round games between June 14 and July 9. The five group stages include:

  • June 14: Germany vs. Curaçao
  • June 17: Portugal vs. Congo DR/Jamaica/New Caledonia
  • June 20: Netherlands vs. Albania/Poland/Sweden/Ukraine
  • June 23: Portugal vs. Uzbekistan
  • June 26: Cabo Verde vs. Saudi Arabia

Houston will also host Round of 32 and Round of 16 of the FIFA World Cup 2026.

More information: Houston residents and soccer fans across the world will be able to apply for the next round of World Cup tickets starting Dec. 11 for the Random Selection Draw. The ticket portal will remain open through Jan. 13.

Trader Joe's is now open in Kingwood, following a ribbon cutting ceremony for the grocery store at 8 a.m. Dec. 5. As previously reported by Community Impact, the new grocer is located in the Kingwood Commons shopping center. 

What they offer: Trader Joe's is a California-based national chain of neighborhood grocery stores that offers specialty food and beverages, frozen meals and everyday items. 

Some context: The company has six additional locations in the Greater Houston area including three in Houston and one each in Katy, Sugar Land and The Woodlands. A new location is also planned for 9715 Towne Lake Parkway in Cypress.
