Conroe approves $1.87M in heavy equipment purchases for public works fleet

Conroe City Council approved nearly $1.9 million in heavy equipment purchases May 28, moving forward with several vehicle replacements aimed at supporting the city’s ongoing public works operations.

The details: The council approved the fiscal year 2025-26 VERF heavy equipment replacement bids for a total of $1.87 million. The purchases will go to four vendors: Cleveland Mack Sales Inc., doing business as Performance Truck; Holt Truck Centers; Houston Freightliner; and Monk JCB, according to city documents.

The replacement list includes equipment such as dump trucks, an excavator, a street sweeper, a jet truck and an asphalt patch truck.

Jason Miller, assistant director of public works, told council the city received bids through its purchasing process and selected the low bid for six of the eight vehicles. However, staff recommended going with the second-lowest bid for two pieces of equipment: a jet truck used on sanitary sewer lines and an asphalt patch truck.
