Kyle's free outdoor fitness court promotes community wellness

Over the summer, an outdoor fitness court bringing seven movement stations and exercise guidance was installed in Lake Kyle Park.

What they're saying: David Lopez, city of Kyle parks and recreation director, says the outdoor fitness court lowers barriers to health and wellness for residents.

“We get regular visitation throughout the day,” Lopez said. “Folks who are getting their vitamin D intake, fresh air, and they don't have to worry about memberships. They can go whenever it's convenient for them.”

Looking forward: With regular use by individuals and families, thanks to the adjacent park and playground, Lopez said a demonstrated appetite for fitness facilities is informing future planning for park spaces in the city.

“There’s something for everybody at the [fitness court] and it's very inviting,” Lopez said. “That's what Kyle Parks and Rec tries to focus on. One of our master initiatives is to make safe gathering spaces accessible for everyone in our community.”
