Hibachi Hero now offering fast-food Asian cuisine in Cy-Fair

Hibachi Hero general manager Candance Cheng said the eatery is now offering Asian cuisine at the former Sichuan Pepper Express and Whataburger location. Per previous Community Impact reporting Sichuan Pepper Express opened in November 2024.

On the menu: Hibachi Hero offers a variety of appetizers including spicy garlic edamame, pan fired poke gyoza and crab wanton rangoons.

The eatery specializes in hibachi meals with options including New York strip steak, shrimp, chicken and fish. In addition, Hibachi Hero also serves skewers, fried rice plates and noodle plates.

Harris County invests over $300K for low-cost pet spay, neuter services to combat animal overpopulation

Harris County residents can now access low-cost spay and neuter surgeries for their pets thanks to a $300,000 investment from the office of Precinct 3 Commissioner Tom Ramsey, a longtime advocate of reducing animal overpopulation.

The overview: Precinct 3 partnered with Harris County Public Health and animal welfare nonprofit PetSet to create a mobile clinic that will travel around unincorporated Harris County. Leaders said on top of providing affordable pet care, the initiative aims to improve public safety by reducing strays over time.

About the program: For $20 per dog and cat, PetSet veterinarians will perform spay or neuter surgeries, microchipping and vaccinations in the mobile facility. PetSet co-President Tena Lundquist Faust said the bundle of services would typically cost $300 to $700 at a standard veterinary clinic.

Why it matters: Harris County is estimated to have approximately 1 million strays, and public health officials said the county reported nearly 1,200 stray animal bite cases in the past year.

Learn more: The mobile clinic is scheduled to visit several locations throughout Precinct 3 from May-September.

After first quarter of 2026, CenterPoint Energy on track to achieve 2026 goals

CenterPoint Energy has made key first-quarter progress in reaching milestones tied to the company’s Greater Houston Resiliency Initiative, according to an April 17 news release from the company.

Digging deeper: Launched after Hurricane Beryl, the initiative is a multiyear effort to strengthen resilience and improve reliability for its 2.9 million electric customers, and to help build the most resilient coastal grid in the nation, according to the release. 

Quote of note: “We are proud of the progress made in 2025 which helped deliver more than 100 million fewer outage minutes when compared to 2024, and we are determined to make even more progress in 2026 as we work toward our defining goal: building the nation's most resilient coastal grid,” said Nathan Brownell, CenterPoint's vice president of Resilience and Capital Delivery, in the release.
