Tomball lines up FM 2920 utility relocation design work

Tomball City Council voted Jan. 5 on an early step tied to the planned rehabilitation of FM 2920—moving city utilities out of the way before road construction begins.

The item to approve a professional services agreement with Oller Engineering Inc. to design the relocation of utilities along FM 2920 has a price tag not to exceed $765,541. Council approved the item without discussion as part of its consent agenda.

The details: The project scope calls for engineering and design services for relocating water, sanitary sewer and natural gas utilities tied to the Texas Department of Transportation’s FM 2920 roadway improvements.

The scope document states the project’s purpose is to “adjust, replace, or relocate existing utilities in conflict with proposed TxDOT improvements” along the corridor.

The agenda packet notes the project appears in the adopted fiscal year 2026-2030 Capital Improvement Plan, and it states the Tomball Economic Development Corp., which identified $1 million toward utility relocation related to the FM 2920 rehabilitation project, will reimburse the contract costs.

Montgomery County Commissioners Court sets 2026 meeting calendar, moves regular sessions to Thursdays

Montgomery County residents can mark their calendars for the 2026 Commissioners Court, which will hold regular meetings twice a month on Thursdays after county officials adjusted the schedule to comply with Texas House Bill 1522’s expanded public notice requirements.

The impact: According to the county’s website, the Commissioners Court's upcoming meeting dates are:

January:

  • Jan. 15
  • Jan. 29

February:
  • Feb. 12
  • Feb. 26

How we got here: State law now requires public meeting notices to go up three business days before a meeting, replacing the prior 72-hour posting requirement, as previously reported.

County officials said the Thursday switch gives staff a clearer runway to meet the new deadline. In the July discussion about the coming change, Precinct 2 Commissioner Ritch Wheeler said the county had already built schedules around the existing calendar, and “[they] adopted a county calendar at the beginning of the year ... [commissioners] also set [their] calendars based on that,” and that the date change ought to take effect starting in 2026.
