Several roads in Denton are undergoing closures for utility installations and improvement projects. Check out five road closure updates around Denton. This list is not comprehensive.

Bonnie Brae Street sixth phase: Bonnie Brae Street is closed from West University Drive to Carril Al Lago Drive while crews demolish the existing southbound lanes as part of a multi-phase street improvement project. Bonnie Brae Street will receive additional lanes, a multi-use path along the roadway and improved lighting.

Mill overlay on Teasley Lane and Shady Oaks Drive: Portions of Teasley Lane and Shady Oaks drive from I-35E to Colorado Boulevard will close while crews replace the road’s top layer of asphalt.

The work is part of the $1.7 million mill overlay package, which will replace the top layer of asphalt along specific roadways. Denton City Council approved the project and funding at an April 21 meeting.

A new James Avery Artisan Jewelry store will open at the Denton Crossing shopping center next year, according to documents filed with the TDLR. 

The documents state the retail space off South Loop 288 will undergo a roughly $424,000 renovation to accommodate the James Avery store. Construction to convert the space will start Sept. 28 and wrap by Jan. 11, 2027, according to the documents.

James Avery offers rings, necklaces, bracelets and charms. The company operates another Denton location at the Rayzor Ranch shopping center, according to the company’s website.

Harry Potter has been confirmed as the theme for the 2026 ice! experience at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine.

The display will feature 10 different scenes inspired by the wizarding world and will use 2 million pounds of ice to create the sculptures and scenes within the resort, according to the website. Each theme also features two-story ice slides and passageways throughout the experience.

The details: This year’s ice! runs from Nov. 13-Jan. 3, 2027, according to a news release. Tickets for the event are available starting at $33.32.

The experience, which is inspired by the Harbin Ice Festival in China, uses more than 300 Harbin-based artisans to create the sculptures, the news release states. The artisans spend about 40 days hand carving 60,000 ice blocks.

On-site, the experience is kept at 9 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the ice sculptures.

1. Pershing Drive utilities and roadway replacement
Project: Pershing Drive in Denton is receiving new water and wastewater lines, new roadway and portions of the sidewalk are being replaced. Denton voters approved the project as part of the Neighborhood 1B bond package.
Update: Crews are working to replace the driveway, curb and gutter with final paving to follow.
