A remodel of a Burger King location in Porter is scheduled to start in the fourth quarter of this year, a Burger King spokesperson confirmed via email Aug. 28.

What's new: Construction is tentatively slated to finish by the second quarter of 2027. The location—owned by Shoukat Dhanani—will be renovated to match the company’s new “Burger King Sizzle” restaurant design, the spokesperson said.

What they offer: Burger King is a fast-food chain with a menu of flame-grilled burgers, chicken, fries, breakfast items, desserts and drinks, according to the company's website.

When Timothy Williams opened Cowboy Feed Store in September 2024, he did it out of necessity for his community.

“The community needed a feed store,” Williams said. “There's a lot of families here with animals, livestock, and it was just needed.”

The details: Williams said Cowboy Feed Store offers an assortment of livestock-related feed and goods. He said the feed available at the store covers the full range of typical livestock around the area, noting they even have food available for emus and tortoises.

Also of note: In addition to livestock-related goods and feed, Williams said the store offers an assortment of items created from community businesses.

“There’s someone who does hats, someone does shirts, someone does the aprons, the mugs, rump scrubbers,” Williams said. “We don't charge or rent spaces here. It comes back to you.”

Over 100,000 students have enrolled at Lone Star College System for the fall semester, marking a milestone for the college system, according to a Sept. 14 news release.

A new chapter: For the fall semester of the 2026-27 school year, 100,023 students are enrolled to take courses at LSCS, according to the news release.

LSCS’s current enrollment represents an increase of 2.8% compared to the fall enrollment for 2025, which was 97,294, according to LSCS’s website. Enrollment has grown 17.45% compared to the fall of 2022.

Four candidates are running for Texas lieutenant governor—the second-in-command to the governor—in the Nov. 3 election.

What's happening: Libertarian Anthony Cristo, Democrat Vikki Goodwin and Green Party candidate Kevin McCormick are challenging Republican incumbent Dan Patrick, who is seeking a fourth term.

The lieutenant governor leads the Texas Senate and can exercise the powers of the governor if the governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is absent from the state, according to the Texas State Historical Association.

How we got here: Patrick won his Republican primary race in March, while Goodwin advanced to the general election after beating another Democrat in a May primary runoff, Community Impact reported. Cristo and McCormick were selected as their parties' respective candidates during nominating conventions in April.

Looking ahead: Early voting in the midterm election runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
