Plano sandwich shop Sourdough Bread Deli offers a homemade menu that uses fresh ingredients from its bread to its meats.

What’s in a name: Sourdough Bread Deli owner Veronika Prishutov-Wells said she and her teammate, Sviatlana Filistovich, take roughly two hours each morning to bake the restaurant’s bread from scratch.

Meet the owner: Prishutov-Wells was born in a small town in Uzbekistan and arrived in New York, where she eventually joined the army. She said she moved to the Dallas-Fort Worth area after her husband, a truck driver who traveled across the country frequently, suggested the move.

Dallas Mavericks plan new arena, entertainment district in far north Dallas

The Dallas Mavericks plan to build a new arena and entertainment district in far north Dallas, near the Richardson border, the organization announced June 1.

What you need to know: The Mavericks entered into “option agreements” to purchase approximately 104 acres of the former Valley View Mall site, located off of I-35 and Preston Road, according to a statement from the team.

The Mavericks plan to develop a “vibrant mixed-use destination” around the area, with restaurants, entertainment, green spaces and family-friendly experiences. The team will likely move out of its downtown Dallas location by 2031, when its lease ends at the American Airlines Center.

Quote of note: “The Valley View site meets most of the criteria established at the outset of our evaluation process,” the team said in the statement. “It is our goal to stay in the City of Dallas, and we believe this site provides the strongest opportunity to achieve that goal.”
