Council approves $2.6M for erosion control projects in Plano

Plano City Council approved funds totaling $2.6 million for various erosion control projects across the city at a meeting July 27.

In a nutshell: Officials approved $2.19 million for an erosion control project with three locations near Willow Creek and Ports O’Call.

Also of note: The city also approved funds for the engineering segment of two erosion projects.

According to city documents, $226,996 will be used to fund a feasibility study and preliminary preparation for seven sites on Russell Creek, White Rock Creek and Young’s Branch.

Also, $270,000 will be used for preliminary preparation at seven sites on Brown Branch, Cottonwood Creek and Rasor Creek, per city documents.

North Texas Performing Arts to move from Willow Bend to new 15th Street HQ

North Texas Performing Arts is relocating its headquarters from the Willow Bend Mall to 2819 W. 15th St., according to a news release from the organization.

What’s happening: The new complex will feature four performance stages, six dance and rehearsal studios, private practice rooms, a set-build shop and additional spaces “supporting NTPA’s theatre, education and community programs,” the release states.

The space used to house Holiday Warehouse, which closed last March.

Quote of note: “This is an exciting and transformational moment for North Texas Performing Arts,” NTPA CEO Darrell Rodenbaugh said in the release. “We have a vision that everyone should have the profound opportunity of taking the stage, and so it is critical that we preserve our mission.”

30 North Texas RaceTrac stores set for an update

RaceTrac is spending nearly $20 million to remodel 30 stores in North Texas, according to a company news release.

The specifics: The remodeled stores began reopening in May and will continue to reopen through the end of the year. Remodels include the following updates:

  • A full grab-and-go pizza bar

  • A redesigned coffee area

  • A refreshed Swirl World frozen yogurt bar

  • Updated interior graphics, signage, paint and décor throughout

  • Reorganized shelving


Five locations in Plano, four in Frisco, two in Fort Worth and one each in Allen, Denton and McKinney are among the RaceTracs set for a remodel.
