Bastrop City Council will tackle a range of topics, from the proposed budget to Flock camera policy, data center regulations and e-bike rentals during an Aug. 25 workshop and regular meeting.

What’s happening: Workshop discussions will cover five tax-rate scenarios to address a projected $830,468 General Fund shortfall, potential changes to the city’s Flock camera policy and possible conditional-use permit requirements for data centers in Industrial zoning districts.

Also of note: The regular agenda includes an update on a Capital Area Rural Transportation System expansion and geofencing logistics for proposed e-bikes.

Council will also meet in closed session to continue discussing the possible acquisition of a property on Church Street.

Meeting details: The workshop begins at 5:30 p.m., followed by the regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Bastrop City Hall, 1311 Chestnut St.

Bastrop residents and business owners can support Feed the Need Missions’ weekly meals and ministry at its annual gala Sept. 12.

The details: This year's gala is themed “The Harvest," and includes dinner, a live auction and an evening dedicated to 16 years of weekly ministry.

Executive Director Jonah Beyer said this year's theme has a special meaning.

"It is the story of sixteen years of faithful, consistent presence in this community," he said. "We have been planting seeds and showing up, week after week, and the harvest from that work is real."

What they do: Founded in 2010 with a mission to feed people physically and spiritually, the faith-based Bastrop nonprofit offers free weekly meals in and around Bastrop County.

This November, Libertarian Ted Brown, Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico are running to be Texas' next U.S. senator.

The overview: Each state has two U.S. senators serving staggered terms, with Ted Cruz and John Cornyn currently representing Texas.

Cornyn ran for reelection but lost his primary race, and the winner of the November election will replace him in January.

Paxton advanced to the general election after beating Cornyn in a primary runoff, while Talarico beat two other contenders in the Democratic primary, Community Impact reported. 

Brown was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

At the polls: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 for dozens of statewide and local races. Election Day is Nov. 3.
