Check out 5 road closures in Denton

Construction crews are currently working on several roadways in Denton. Check out five road closures around the city. This list is not comprehensive.

Huntington Drive: Huntington Drive is closed between Sun Valley Drive and Hercules Lane for utilities and pavement replacements. The road closed Oct. 20 and is scheduled to reopen in late March, according to a city staff report.

Emery Street: Crews are currently rebuilding Emery Street from Alice Street to the end of Emery Street as part of the Neighborhood 2 bond package. Crews began work on curbs and gutters, according to a December construction update. City officials expect to complete the work on Feb. 13, 2026, according to a staff report.

Welch Street: Welch Street between Mulberry Street and Hickory Street is closed while crews replace the asphalt as part of the 2019 Neighborhood 6 bond program. The road is expected to reopen in early January.

Burlington department store to open in Denton

A new Burlington location is scheduled to open on West University Drive in spring 2026, Burlington Construction Project Manager Tom Tyler said.

Burlington is a New Jersey-based department store that offers clothing, accessories and home goods, according to the company’s website.

Denton administrative services to close at noon on Fridays

The city of Denton will close its public-facing administrative offices at noon on Fridays starting Jan. 2, according to a city news release.

The details: The new hours are part of a one-year pilot program to retain and attract employees, the release states.

The early closure would allow city employees to spend more time on training and uninterrupted work, according to a presentation from city Chief Strategic Officer Aimee Kaslik at a Dec. 2 council work session.
