Ericka Lomick, the Democratic nominee for Texas House District 93, announced she suspended her campaign.

The details: A news release from Lomick Sept. 21 stated she will no longer be running against Alan Blaylock in a special election and the general election, both of which are on the Nov. 3 ballot.

“After careful consideration, I have made the decision to suspend my campaign for House District 93,” she said. “Although it was not an easy decision, I am convinced that it was the right one for the people of HD 93.”

She added that the people of HD 93 should elect someone who can serve the district without the burden of defending against “attacks that would threaten to derail the business of the people.”

Texas House District 93 represents parts of Tarrant County, including a portion of north Fort Worth, Saginaw and Haslet.

Looking ahead: Early voting for the November general election begins Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 31, with Election Day falling on Nov. 3.

Insurance broker Daniel St. Ama opened a SIG/North Star Insurance office in Fort Worth in July.

The details: As an independent insurance broker, St. Ama can find insurance offerings from several companies to help meet the needs of customers.

St. Ama, a Keller resident for the past six years, said he can find insurance coverage for home, auto, commercial, renters, landlord, life, health, boats, RVs, motorcycles and ATVs.

The background: St. Ama previously worked as a district manager for a flooring and home improvement company after moving to Keller from East Texas.

“During my time there, I kept hearing the same story from customers: Something had happened to their home and they came in expecting insurance to help put things back together, only to find out they weren’t covered the way they thought they were,” he said. “That stuck with me.”

A new program from the Transportation Security Administration, new speed limits on International Parkway, new parking and access fees, hotel topping out and flight changes are among the updates from Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.

Gateside by TSA PreCheck: Gateside is a new program launched that allows non-flyers with an eligible TSA PreCheck membership to enter the secure area to meet or see off friends and family at the gate, meet for a layover, or shop or eat at restaurants within the airport.

The TSA website says the program is free and to apply one to three days before a planned visit. Children can also participate but must be included on their parent/guardian's application.

Six new restaurants are now open in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, offering a variety of dining experiences:

• LSA Burger Co. opened Aug. 13 in Celina, featuring a menu named after Texas music legends.
• BreadHaus opened Sept. 5 in Frisco, offering scratch-made artisan baked goods free of commercial yeast, preservatives and artificial additives.
• Luna Loco opened Aug. 21 in Keller, serving Mexican favorites like tostadas, enchiladas, street tacos and burritos.
• PopUp Bagels opened Aug. 21 in McKinney, selling bagels by the bag alongside a choice of several schmears.
• Original ChopShop opened Sept. 23 in Richardson, serving protein bowls, salads, sandwiches, all-day breakfast, juices and protein shakes.
• Hudson House opened Sept. 14 in Southlake, featuring a menu with burgers, sushi, a raw bar and martinis.

Upcoming projects

1. Silverado Trail lane expansion

Project: Silverado Trail’s westbound lanes will be constructed between Kenley Drive and Burnett Drive in McKinney, including a bridge over Rowlett Creek. The project includes relocation of an existing North Texas Municipal Water District sanitary sewer line.

Update: Design is 90% complete. The project is expected to bid in early 2027.

2. Greenville Avenue reconstruction

Project: Work will feature a full concrete reconstruction of Greenville Avenue in Richardson from Centennial Boulevard to Huffhines Street. Also included will be sewer and water main improvements.

Update: Design for the project is around 60% complete, according to the city’s capital project tracker.
