The Greater East Montgomery County Chamber has launched a new initiative called EMC Votes to boost historically low voter participation ahead of the Nov. 3 general election.
The breakdown: Chamber officials analyzed data from five general elections between 2016 and 2024, which showed East Montgomery County's voter participation lagged behind Montgomery County. In the 2024 general election, more than 22,600 registered voters in East Montgomery County did not participate.
Diving in deeper: Chamber officials analyzed various demographic characteristics to find a correlation with the low turnout but were unsuccessful.
What's being done: In response, the chamber has launched an online survey asking registered voters a single question: What is getting in the way of you voting?
Chamber officials said they hope the survey results will provide insight they can then use to help bolster voter participation going forward.
Stay tuned: Key dates for the upcoming election include:
The last day to register to vote was Oct. 5.
Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30.
The deadline to apply for a ballot by mail is Oct. 23.
