PREVIEW: Jersey Village City Council to discuss property maintenance code, potential pay equity study

During its upcoming March 16 meeting, Jersey Village City Council will discuss adopting the city’s first standalone property maintenance code as well as review a proposed interim rate adjustment from CenterPoint Energy.

At a glance: The March agenda includes a proposed ordinance to adopt the 2024 edition of the International Property Maintenance Code, or IPMC, which establishes uniform maintenance standards for existing residential and commercial buildings, according to city documents.

In other news: Additionally, council members will discuss a Feb. 17 interim rate adjustment, or IRA, from CenterPoint Energy that would increase Jersey Village residential rates by $2.47 per month, city documents show. The increase is scheduled to take effect April 18, but the council may delay it by 45 days for further review.

Also of note: City Council will consider hiring a consultant to perform two studies related to citywide pay structure, staffing levels and internal equity, according to the agenda.

Stay tuned: The March 16 meeting will begin at 7 p.m. in the Civic Center Auditorium at 16327 Lakeview Drive, Jersey Village.

Serendipity Veterinary Hospital now open in Cypress Rosehill area

In January, Serendipity Veterinary Hospital opened its doors. The hospital is owned and operated by veterinarian Shelby Wauson, a Magnolia local, alongside her husband and two children.

Staying local: Serendipity Veterinary Hospital is a single-doctor practice run by Wauson, who said the reasoning behind this is the value she puts on community and family. The hospital's hours run Monday-Friday from 7:30 a.m. until 6:00 p.m. Wauson said they see urgent and emergency walk-ins before 3 p.m. and then on a case-by-case basis after 3 p.m., as well as scheduled appointments.

Quote of note: “We hope to remain a close-knit, community-driven practice who remembers your pet and your family, " Wauson said. “We want to be an integral part of our community."

See updates on 9 transportation projects in Greater Houston that could impact commutes

Several road improvements are underway and coming soon across the Houston region. Here are some projects to keep an eye on.

Latest update: Construction bids for the $81 million Greenhouse Road overpass project are now being accepted, Harris County Precinct 3 officials said.

According to details shared by Harris County MUD 500 and Caldwell Companies, the new Greenhouse Road underpass will include an expanded overpass on Hwy. 290, a tunnel structure underneath the Union Pacific railroad and additional sidewalks and pedestrian crossings.

Other projects: The Fort Bend County Toll Road Authority is expanding Westpark Tollway an additional four miles, bringing its new end to Charger Way. The first 2-mile extension of the project opened Feb. 28, more than eight months ahead of schedule.

Additionally, a portion of FM 1960 was widened from a four-lane asphalt roadway to a six-lane divided concrete roadway with a raised median, curbs and gutters, channelized left-turn lanes and 5-foot sidewalks on both sides of the roadway.
