Playa Bowls to serve açaí bowls, smoothies in Spring

Playa Bowls officials said the franchise plans hold a soft opening for its new location in Spring on June 26. The grand opening will take place at a later date.

The details: Per previous Community Impact reporting the new location will be located in a 1,435-square-foot building. With over 300 locations, Playa Bowls serves health conscious treats such as açaí bowls, cold pressed juices, smoothies, according to the website.

New pre-security Starbucks opens at IAH Terminal E

A new pre-security Starbucks opened in mid-June at George Bush Intercontinental Airport's Terminal E, officials with the Houston Airport System announced in a June 19 news release. 

What to expect: Per the release, the coffee shop is located beneath the Oculus—the centerpiece of the Terminal E arrivals hall—and has nearby seating options with charging stations. 

Founded in Seattle in 1971, the international coffee chain offers a menu of brewed coffee, espresso drinks, blended frozen Frappuccinos, teas, pastries and more. 

Some context: The new Starbucks is just the latest in a slate of new dining options to open in Terminal E over the past year, as part of a $1.5 billion effort to expand terminal offerings.

What's next: Officials also noted a Chili's To-Go Bar is set to open near the Starbucks later this year.

New seating at IAH gives travelers more places to sit, charge up

Travelers flying through George Bush Intercontinental Airport now have a few more comfortable places to sit, work and charge before boarding.

The details: Houston Airports recently added new seating near gates A14 and A15 in Terminal A, increasing seating in that area by 24%, according to a June 23 release. The update added 47 seats, along with workstations, group seating and built-in charging.

The new setup is meant to better fit how people actually use airport space, according to the release. 

What this means: In Terminal A, the seating includes tray tables, charging access, work areas and group seating. The area also has large windows looking out over the airfield.

The seating was previously used in Terminal D before being moved and installed in Terminal A in May, ahead of a busy summer travel season and the 2026 FIFA World Cup travel period, per the release.

Naskila Casino Resort breaks ground in Leggett

The Alabama-Coushatta Tribe of Texas and Naskila Casino held a groundbreaking ceremony June 18 for the upcoming Naskila Casino Resort in Leggett, officials announced in a June 18 news release.

What to expect: The roughly 685,000-square-foot Naskila Casino Resort will be located on 95 acres of Alabama-Coushatta Tribal land and will include a large gaming floor, a 366-room hotel, entertainment amenities, various dining options, a resort-style pool complex, and event and conference space, according to the release.

On the horizon: The first phase of Naskila Casino Resort is expected to be completed by the end of 2028, per the release. However, officials said the development schedule for the hotel and resort-style pool complex is still being determined and more information will be shared for future phases as plans are finalized and construction progresses.

In the meantime, the Naskila Casino Leggett—a temporary, 24-hour gaming experience located on the future site of the resort—is set to open late this summer 2026, per the release.
