Denton voters will choose between two candidates for the House District 64 seat, which will be on the ballot for the Nov. 3 election.

What you need to know: The candidates running for the position are Julie Evans and incumbent Andy Hopper. Evans won the Democratic primary election against Christie Wood for the seat in March, according to previous reporting. Hopper defeated Lisa McEntire for the District 64 Republican race, per previous reporting.

Candidates were asked to keep responses within 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity. Candidates are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

What else? Oct. 5 is the last day for residents to register to vote, according to the Texas Secretary of State website. Early voting will take place from Oct. 19-30.

Scarvelli’s Italian Restaurant is planning to open its doors in Denton.

The details: While fresh food and quality ingredients are selling points of the restaurant, family is at its core, a company representative said. Scarvelli is an old family name from the owners' grandparents who came through Ellis Island from Italy.

“When you go to eat at your family's house, your family doesn't cut corners on the food,” one of the owners said. “They create it with love and they create it with passion because they're feeding their family. And that's how we do it here.”

The food will be made to order with natural ingredients and a marinara sauce that is an old family recipe. The menu will consist of Italian classics like pizza, pasta and chicken parmesan, which is expected to be one of the most popular items.

What else? The restaurant will be located where Milpa Kitchen and Cantina used to be.

1. Methodist Richardson Medical Center expansion
Methodist Richardson Medical center is adding a three-story tower with mechnical space and an imaging suite on the first level, a 25-bed intermediate care unit on the second and shell space on the third per a TDLR filing. Construction is estimated to take roughly a year to complete.

2. Denton County Civil Courts relocation
Denton County Civil Courts is relocating into an existing five-story office building in Denton, per a TDLR filing. The office used to be the corporate headquarters for Sally Beauty Holdings, Inc. before the company relocated to Plano at the end of 2025 per previous reporting.

• Estimated timeline: Dec.1, 2026-March 31, 2028
• Estimated cost: $60 million

Three candidates are running to lead the Texas Department of Agriculture in the Nov. 3 election.

The details: Libertarian Austin R. Kelly, Republican Nate Sheets and Democrat Clayton Tucker are vying to become Texas' next commissioner of agriculture. The commissioner's duties include regulating agriculture, administering nutrition programs and providing rural economic development assistance.

How we got here: There is no incumbent in this race after Sheets beat sitting Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller in the March Republican primary. Tucker ran uncontested in the March Democratic primary, while Kelly was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

The winner of the November midterm will be sworn in to succeed Miller in January.
