The Woodlands Township board of directors will review a new mounted patrol agreement proposal from the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office at a Sept. 17 meeting. The township's current contract with Alpha & Omega Mounted Patrol ends Dec. 31. The board previously voted 7-0 in August to decrease its mounted patrol budget in its customer engagement department by about $1.5 million, while allocating about $1.3 million in the law enforcement fund for fiscal year 2027. The township is considering transitioning from a private security model to a law enforcement model.

The details: The proposed agreement with the sheriff's office would not replace traditional law enforcement patrols. The projected costs include:

• One-time costs: $954,876

• Recurring costs: $1,371,354

• First year cost total: $2,326,230

In other news: The board will also hold a public hearing on Sept. 17 regarding cell tower installation on township-owned property. The board will consider starting lease agreements for 10 cell tower sites.

Yonutz Donuts and Ice Cream hosted its grand opening on Sept. 14 in Grogan's Mill Village Center, said franchise owner Staci Loftus. The business is located at 2230 Buckthorne Place, Ste. 150, The Woodlands.

The details: The nonprofit Bayou Land Conservancy, which focuses on preserving streams that lead into Lake Houston, has named Dr. Anna Weiss as its new executive director. Weiss succeeds Jill Boullion, who retired after ten years of service. In her new role, Weiss will oversee daily operations and implement initiatives directed by the board. She has a decade of experience in the environmental sector, most recently serving as the Director of Green Galveston Initiatives at Vision Galveston. Weiss earned her Ph.D. in Geosciences from The University of Texas at Austin and previously managed community-led restoration and research projects for the Billion Oyster Project in New York.

Incumbent Misty Odenweller and Candidate Phillip Martin are the two candidates up for election for Conroe ISD position 3 on Nov. 3.

What you need to know:Early voting begins Oct. 19 and runs through Oct. 30, according to the Texas Secretary of State's website. Election Day is Nov. 3, and polls are open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.

Montgomery County locals have until Oct. 5 to register to vote early.
