How to recycle live Christmas trees in Plano

Recycling for live Christmas trees will be available in Plano from Dec. 26-Jan. 3, according to the city’s website.

What you need to know: Live trees can be dropped off at one of the following three Plano locations:

  • Old Shepard Place Park, 1301 Winding Hollow Lane
  • Russell Creek Park, 3500 McDermott Road
  • Schell Park, 2305 Laurel Lane

Something else:
 All ornaments, lights, tinsel, stands and fake snow must be removed from trees before they can be recycled. Live greenery and trees become Texas Pure Products mulch and compost, according to the city’s website.

KidsUnited celebrates one year of soccer in Plano, near Frisco border

KidsUnited Frisco | Plano, a youth soccer program that uses sports to help children hit development milestones, celebrated its first year in business in November.

The location, owned by Naureen Mithani and Samira Kamrudin, is the first KidsUnited franchise in Texas.

The specifics: KidsUnited offers 45-minute classes for kids ages 18 months to nine years.

Looking ahead: Based on the success of their first year, Mithani and Kamrudin are ready to expand.

Their second KidsUnited franchise in Celina Business Park is slated to open in March, and they are working to secure space for a third franchise in McKinney.

Pizza Twist opened Dec. 20 in Flower Mound and is serving specialty pizzas like butter chicken pizza, bombay barbecue pizza and Hawaiian pizza.

In addition to the variety of pizzas, the Indian fusion restaurant will offer pasta, breadsticks, chicken wings, salad, fries and paneer pakora, which is a bread served with Pizza Twist’s signature sauce.

Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi recently launched a soft opening Dec. 19 in Plano.

The restaurant offers hibachi and hot pot dining experiences as well as a variety of sushi options. Shogun Japanese Grill & Sushi is a concept by Shogun Group which has multiple restaurants in the Houston area as well as Austin and San Marcos.
