League City approves allocating $240K for police training facility design phase

League City recently took steps to move forward with the construction of its own training facility, which will provide its officers 24-hour access to training, eliminating the department's reliance on facilities in other cities.

What happened: League City City Council voted unanimously to award a $240,000 contract, a portion of the project’s overall $900,000 budget, to Fort Worth-based Quorum Architects for the facility’s design, bid and construction phase services at its Feb. 10 meeting.

What residents should know: The 24-hour access facility, which will be located at the existing public safety building at 555 W. Walker St., will provide a city-owned space for the department to conduct trainings, eliminating the need to use facilities in other cities that may have limited availability or only operate during business hours, according to previous reporting by Community Impact

What’s next: The architectural firm will provide the city with a preliminary design for the project within 75 days after the notice to proceed, according to city documents.
