Crisis Center of Comal County's transitional housing project sees progress in New Braunfels

Crisis Center of Comal County is making progress on its transitional housing facility.

"The importance of this center is to give a home to those who lost their home, and a hope of reestablishing their own permanent place that they can call home without fear of violence," Chief Executive Officer Julie Strentzsch said.

A quick note: The nonprofit organization works to embrace survivors of trauma and empowers them to positively change the trajectory of their lives through safe, compassionate wraparound services, Strentzsch said. Because the nonprofit organization has yet to name the building, the project is being called The Center.

“We are seeking individuals who are interested in naming rights,” she said.

Latest update: The three-story transitional housing project will have a total of 26 living units. There will be seven three-bedroom units on the third floor, along with five units for individuals needing shelter with large families on the second floor. The center will also provide 13 individual living units, Strentzsch said.

Texas Cyber Command celebrates launch at UT San Antonio

On Oct. 21, the Texas Cyber Command, TXCC, celebrated its official launch at the University of Texas at San Antonio downtown campus.

What happened: The command center will be led by retired Vice Admiral Timothy James White, who was appointed to the position by Gov. Greg Abbott on Sept. 16.

White said Cyber Command is important for the state due to the heightened risks of cybersecurity attacks.

“Big actors in this space—state, [national] actors in this space, criminal organizations in this space—they're coming for Texas. They've come for Texas. They are here,” White said. “And so I think the expectation of the governor and the legislature is that Texas Cyber Command rapidly has to be part of the solution."

Looking ahead: TXCC is reviewing applications for principal staff such as general counsel, human resources, principal deputies, vice commander, vice chief, and a contracting and financial planner.
