Richardson ISD approves 2026-27, 2027-28 of academic calendars

The Richardson ISD board of trustees approved the academic calendars for both the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school years at its Dec. 11 meeting.

The details: The 2026-2027 school year will begin Wednesday, Aug. 12 and end May 26, with winter break from Dec. 21-Jan. 5.

The 2027-28 school year will start Wednesday, Aug. 11 and end May 24, with winter break from Dec. 20-Jan. 4.

Another thing: The district is exploring funding options for the Texas Education Agency Additional Days School Year initiative, which would support up to 30 additional school days at eligible campuses during the summer in order to address summer learning loss. The eligible campuses would be Dover Elementary, RISD Academy and Audelia Creek Elementary, and those schools would start the 2026-27 and 2027-28 school year one day earlier to meet funding eligibility guidelines.

New H-E-B on track to open near Richardson after Dallas City Council approval

The first H-E-B is coming to the city of Dallas, near the Richardson border, after Dallas City Council approved a zoning request for the grocery store in its Dec. 10 meeting.

The details: Located on the southeast corner of Hillcrest Road and LBJ Freeway, the new store would become the closest H-E-B to Richardson.

Quote of note: “We appreciate the thoughtful consideration from city officials, staff, and community members throughout this process,” said Mabrie Jackson, H-E-B managing director of public affairs, in a statement. “We are committed to serving Texans and look forward to bringing our first H-E-B store to the city of Dallas.”

Dallas Fort Worth International Airport board approves additional work on Terminal F, Skylink Station

The Dallas Fort Worth International Airport board approved additional work near and around Terminal F, the sixth terminal that is expected to open in 2027.

During the Dec. 4 meeting, three contracts worth nearly $60 million were passed for various projects around DFW Airport.

The specifics: An amended contract for Terminal F and Skylink Station was revised to add $31.2 million, raising the not-to-exceed contract amount to $1.12 billion, according to airport documents.

The Phase 1 footprint of Terminal F is being expanded at the south and southeast ends to accommodate current operational projections, which will reposition hold rooms, circulation area, gate-adjacent area and concession amenities, according to documents.

What else? Contracts with Oncor Electric and EAS Contracting were approved for electrical infrastructure work.

EAS Contracting, from Roanoke, was awarded a contract not to exceed $29.7 million for the modernization and replacement of the electrical system supporting the west airfields, as well as Terminal F.
