San Marcos City Park undergoing $575K playground, accessibility upgrades

City Park in San Marcos is getting some upgrades, which are underway.

The City Park Playground Improvements Project construction began on Aug. 25. The San Marcos City Council approved the project for $574,961 at the meeting on June 3.

The details
According to the city website, updates will include:

  • A new playground with padded play turf
  • Shade structures
  • Outdoor fitness equipment
  • Trail improvements
  • Accessibility improvements
  • Water bottle filling station

A new barbershop has opened in downtown San Marcos.

The details: Milo's Barbershop—locally owned by Lucas Morales—opened inside the former MyCity Locating business at 130 S. LBJ Dr.

What they offer: The barbershop offers haircuts, beard trims, facial waxing, straight razor shaves and more.

Q&A: CollegePros consultant Kate Trent offers Central Texas students college application expertise

CollegePros co-owners Kate Trent and Kim Heffernan assist dozens of Central Texas high school students in determining their next steps after graduation each school year.

The overview: Trent and Heffernan, who were formerly educators in the Austin area, started CollegePros in 2023 to provide a range of supportive services for students in selecting a career path, successfully finding and applying to colleges as well as receiving financial aid.

Why it matters: The Central Texas-based business helps alleviate pressure for families who may not have the time or resources to navigate the increasingly complicated college application process, Trent said.
