Texas Tri-County Chamber of Commerce officials celebrate opening of headquarters in Universal City

The Texas Tri-County Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening of its new headquarters in Universal City on Jan. 22.

The Texas Tri-County Chamber of Commerce serves as a resource for business owners, corporations, elected officials, non-profits and government entities to promote their respective organization. The chamber serves the following counties:

  • Bexar
  • Comal
  • Guadalupe

The chamber of commerce was established in 1975 at the Randolph Metrocom Chamber and has been the Tri-County Chamber since 2014, according to the chamber's website.

Some details: Universal City Mayor Tom Maxwell said they were proud to support the chamber.

"We're extremely proud to have it headquartered in Universal City," Maxwell said.

Bexar County Clerk Lucy Adame-Clark congratulated officials with the chamber on the grand opening of their new headquarters.

"This milestone reflects your continued growth and commitment, dedication to supporting local businesses and bringing strength to your regional economy and to growing development here in Universal City," Adame-Clark said.

Local soccer program to open new practice facility in Northeast San Antonio

This local club soccer training program is taking the next steps in expansion with the opening of a brand new practice facility on the city’s Northeast side.

In case you missed it: Overtime Training—led by former professional soccer player Devin Vega—is currently building a new practice facility at 10405 S. I-35 frontage road at the corner of Thousand Oaks Drive. It’s taking over the previous home of Full Out Xtreme Cheer.

As of publication time, Vega has not released any specific opening timeframe, but construction is currently underway at the facility, according to a recent Instagram announcement.

What’s special about it? Overtime Training focuses mainly on youth soccer training and development of core skills for those looking to compete at high levels.

A range of classes and workshops for each age group is available every week, according to Vega’s Instagram page. Monthly memberships are available in differing tiers for interested athletes.

Saks OFF 5th to close all stores nationwide, including lone San Antonio location

This discount upscale retailer has announced plans for nationwide store closures, including right here in San Antonio at The Rim.

Latest update: Saks Global, the parent company of Saks OFF 5th clothing stores, announced plans to close the majority of its retail locations in a Jan. 29 news release.

The Saks OFF 5th location at 5819 Worth Parkway at The Rim in San Antonio began a closing sale on Jan. 31 and will permanently close once all inventory is liquidated.

"As we advance on Saks Global's transformation, we are taking decisive steps to realign our business to better serve our luxury customers and drive full-price selling across our core luxury businesses," Geoffroy van Raemdonck, the CEO of Saks Global, said in the release.

Approximately 23 stores officially closed for good on Feb. 2, including locations in Dallas and Grand Prairie.

The context: Saks OFF 5th offered a selection of discounted designer clothing, shoes and accessories.

Purrfecto Cat Lounge to bring cat cafe experience to San Antonio this May

This Austin-based cat cafe is expanding southward into San Antonio soon, planning to open the city’s first cat lounge in many years.

In case you missed: Purrfecto Cat Lounge has its eyes set on a to-be-announced location in the Southtown area of San Antonio, near the Lone Star District, founder Lupita Adams said in an email to Community Impact.

The goal for opening has been tentatively set for May, although exact details will be released at a later date, according to the business.

Currently, there are no cat cafes open for business in the city of San Antonio, while Purrfecto’s current brick-and-mortar location is nestled in downtown Austin at 2300 S. Lamar, Ste. 104.

More details: Purrfecto Cat Lounge will offer customers a traditional cat cafe experience, according to its website.

Guests will be able to book appointments for 30 or 70-minute sessions to play and engage with cats, plus sign up for special cat-themed events throughout the year.
