Celina ISD heads into 2026-27 school year with $131.9M balanced budget

Celina ISD is set to operate on a balanced budget for the upcoming school year.

The context: Celina’s budget is projected to increase $27.8 million compared to last school year’s $104.1 million budget, according to prior reporting.

Zooming out: The budget increase reflects the district’s growing enrollment, according to data from the Texas Education Agency.

One more thing: The approved budget includes a 4% raise at the salary midpoint for CISD teachers staff, according to district documents.

Granny’s Bakery debuts pastry-themed coffee bar in downtown Celina

Granny’s Bakery in downtown Celina has overhauled its drink offerings with a new coffee bar, owner Mikala Everson said.

On the menu: This summer’s seasonal drink is a lemon pound cake latte, Everson said. Other bakery-inspired flavors on the coffee bar’s permanent menu include banana bread, birthday cake, cinnamon roll and cookie butter.

Quote of note: “I was thinking about, you know, what could I make better for our customers?” Everson said. “I just wanted to do something that was fun.”

Stonebridge Drive extension, Lebanon Road widening: See 5 DFW transportation projects

Check out five upcoming, ongoing and completed transportation projects around Dallas-Fort Worth.

1. Prosper Trail construction
Project: Prosper Trail will undergo a full pavement reconstruction from Coit Road to Custer Road. The new pavement section will be a four-lane concrete divided roadway.
Update: The design phase is nearing completion, and construction is expected to begin in summer 2028.

2. Stonebridge Drive extension
Project: Crews will construct two lanes of Stonebridge Drive between US 380 and Bloomdale Road. A full six-lane bridge will be constructed over Wilson Creek.
Update: The preliminary alignment study is nearly complete. A final design contract is expected to be presented to McKinney City Council for approval in fall 2026.

1. American to open 2 Admirals Club lounges: Fort Worth-based American Airlines plans to open its largest Admirals Club lounge within Terminal C at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport, according to a news release.

The airline also plans to include a grab-and-go option inside the initial phase of Terminal F, which is expected to open next year.

2. Dallas Love Field Airport receives federal funding: The Federal Aviation Administration will invest $23.7 million in Dallas Love Field Airport to enhance the travel experience.

3. Avelo Airlines plans service to 5 destinations from McKinney National Airport: Avelo Airlines will launch commercial air service at McKinney National Airport later this year with plans for nonstop flights to five destinations.

The airline will offer flights to Las Vegas and four cities in Florida: Fort Lauderdale, Fort Myers, Orlando and Tampa, according to a June 30 news release.
