Organizers are reviving a feasibility study for a Clear Lake water taxi service that could provide a cross-lake transit alternative to driving or taking an Uber.

How we got here: In 2008, Seabrook funded the project’s first feasibility study, but damage from Hurricane Ike stalled the project.

About three years ago, regional tourism and economic development stakeholders asked the Houston-Galveston Area Council to update the study, officials said.

Quote of note: “It’s just a neat attraction, and something that would capitalize on one of our biggest assets: the Clear Lake area,” said Stephanie Polk, communications & community engagement manager for the League City Convention and Visitors Bureau.

After years of focusing on elementary enrichment and high school career programs, Clear Creek ISD officials said it’s time to give intermediate students more opportunities.

CCISD’s STREAM of Innovation, in which STREAM stands for an integrated focus in space, technology, robotics, engineering, arts and medicine, officially launched in late February 2025 to serve in intermediate schools.

The big picture: The first campus for the opportunity was Space Center Intermediate, which offers a focus in engineering.

In the 2025-26 school year, the school started offering specialized interest clubs, a coding elective class for seventh graders and an engineering essentials class for eighth graders, which is a high school course.

STREAM of Innovation has now begun in three more intermediate schools for the 2026-27 school year, with more schools planned for later years.

Looking ahead: To continue expanding opportunities for intermediate students, CCISD officials said they are planning to offer STREAM programs at Bayside Intermediate and Creekside Intermediate in fall 2027.

The details: Waxxed Sports Cards sells sealed trading cards across a wide range of sports and fantasy categories.

Also of note: Appling said Waxxed Sports Cards is a social gathering place just as much as it is a retail shop. The store provides tables for people to hang out and open cards, and it serves drinks and snacks.

Houston approved $129.9 million for seven infrastructure projects at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The overview: The projects include aircraft parking, employee parking, stormwater detention, utility improvements and pedestrian bridge repairs.

The city also authorized an agreement with United Airlines to deliver the work. The entire project will cost $229.9 million and Houston will reimburse United Airlines. The first payment of $129.9 million will be disbursed in fiscal year 2026-27. The remaining $100 million will be paid out in FY 2027-28. Funding will come from airport funds.

City officials said international travel at IAH has increased as the airport saw a record of 12.4 million international travelers in 2025. That international demand, along with an expanding route map, underscores the need for infrastructure.

Design and construction are expected over the next three years, officials said.

Also of note: Under the agreement, United will manage development and construction. Houston Airports will reimburse approved project costs from airport system funds and recover those costs through rates and charges paid by airlines and other airport users, including United.
