Celina officials are upgrading the city’s public safety infrastructure to prepare for new growth, Fire Chief Shawn White said at an Aug. 11 Celina City Council meeting.

In a nutshell: Fire Station No. 2, which is located off of Light Farms Way near Dallas North Tollway, will be replaced with a larger building on the same lot, White said.

What happened: Celina City Council approved a $1.15 million design contract for the new station at the August meeting.

By the numbers: Including design costs, city officials have allocated $23 million for the new building and $11.35 million for the remodel of the old building for a total estimated cost of $34.35 million, according to the city’s five-year capital improvement program.

One more thing: Officials also plan to build a fifth fire station on the northwest corner of Legacy Drive and J. Fred Smith Parkway, per the five-year capital improvement program. Officials expect to begin designing Fire Station No. 5 in 2029 or 2030 for a completion date in 2030 or 2031, White said.

LSA Burger Co. is open in downtown Celina, a company representative confirmed.

On the menu: The burger joint’s menu features items named after Texas music legends like the Waylon, a classic burger with mayonnaise and mustard, and the Chili Willie, a burger topped with Fritos and Texas chili.

Some context: The Celina location is LSA Burger Co.’s third restaurant. The business started in Denton and opened an additional location at Grandscape in The Colony in 2022, according to the business’s website.

Four candidates are running for Texas lieutenant governor—the second-in-command to the governor—in the Nov. 3 election.

What's happening: Libertarian Anthony Cristo, Democrat Vikki Goodwin and Green Party candidate Kevin McCormick are challenging Republican incumbent Dan Patrick, who is seeking a fourth term.

The lieutenant governor leads the Texas Senate and can exercise the powers of the governor if the governor dies, resigns, is removed from office or is absent from the state, according to the Texas State Historical Association.

How we got here: Patrick won his Republican primary race in March, while Goodwin advanced to the general election after beating another Democrat in a May primary runoff, Community Impact reported. Cristo and McCormick were selected as their parties' respective candidates during nominating conventions in April.

Looking ahead: Early voting in the midterm election runs from Oct. 19-30, and Election Day is Nov. 3.
