Over 300 employees at Dallas Fort Worth International Airport will be laid off, according to a Worker Adjustment & Retraining Notification, or WARN, notice filed with the Texas Workforce Commission.

The details: The affected 313 employees are from the airport’s Terminal Link, rental car services, express parking and a main building per the notice dated July 31. The layoff date is Sept. 30.

The layoffs impact employees of Chicago-based parking company SP Plus, which is a subsidiary of Metropolis Technologies. SP Plus did not have its contract renewed after the airport’s board of directors opted to award a nearly $627.4 million contract to LAZ Parking Texas LLC on June 4.

More details: Based on the WARN notice, the affected employees include:

• 130 from the rental car operations
• 90 from express parking
• 87 from the Terminal Link shuttle service
• Six assigned to a main building

A new business offering meal prep options called Lean Kitchen plans to open in Colleyville later this year, the owner said.

What they offer: The menu includes a selection of chicken, beef, turkey and seafood options, according to Lean Kitchen’s website. Customers can also purchase breakfast items, snacks, drinks, nutritional supplements, and health and wellness products. 
The owner said menu items rotate monthly to provide variety.

Also of note: Lean Kitchen prepares meals locally using fresh ingredients, the owner said. Customers can order ahead and pick meals up or choose from grab-and-go options in the store.

1. East Hudgins Street utility work

Project: Work crews will install 1,500 feet of 8-inch water main and 1,500 feet of 8-inch sewer main along the roadway between South Dooley Street and South Main Street in Grapevine. Following completion of the installation, crews will reconstruct Hudgins.

Update: Grapevine City Council approved a contract worth up to $660,000 with Fort Worth-based RUTS Construction during a July 21 meeting.

The North Texas Irish Festival will move to Denton from Dallas in 2027, according to a news release from the organization.

The details: The festival will be held at the North Texas Fairgrounds, the location of the North Texas Fair & Rodeo, from March 13-14, according to the release. 

The festival celebrates Irish and Celtic music, dance and culture and includes events and entertainment such as live music, dance shows, storytelling, food, education and art exhibits.

The 2027 event will have multiple stages for live music, Irish step dancing performances, cultural demonstrations, historic storytelling, vendor and shopping opportunities, activities for children and authentic food and beverages, the release states.

The backstory: The North Texas Irish Festival started in 1983 and has been located in Fair Park in Dallas since 1984, according to the organization’s website. It is produced by the Southwest Celtic Music Association, a Dallas-based nonprofit.
