Nonprofit adds affordable counseling program in New Braunfels

Connections Individual and Family Services has expanded its mental health offerings in Comal County through its Affordable Rate Counseling Program, or ARC.

The details: The ARC Program, which offers individual counseling sessions with a licensed professional, is available for residents of all ages at a flat rate of $45 per session. Sessions are available in person at the nonprofit’s New Braunfels and Bulverde offices, or virtually, according to a news release.
Since its September launch, Connections has seen 20 individuals, Chief Clinical Officer Micki Matthews said in an email to Community Impact.

“The initial feedback has been extremely positive, affordable mental health care options are a real need in our community,” Matthews said.

The program is only being offered in Comal County, specifically at the nonprofit’s Bulverde and New Braunfels offices. Matthews said they are planning to expand the program to other counties over time.

Guadalupe County could receive up to $1M for flood warning sirens

Guadalupe County Commissioners entered into an agreement Jan. 6 with the Texas Water Development Board, or TWDB, for outdoor warning signs.

The county is eligible to receive up to $1 million in financial assistance for eligible expenses from TWDB; however, that assistance could be reduced if the county fails to submit approved project plans for the full amount awarded under the agreement by December 31, 2026.

The gist: Guadalupe County is expected to submit a project plan with projects in flash flood-prone areas where TWDB has found a history of consistent or severe flooding for which the installation, maintenance and operation of one or more outdoor warning sirens is warranted, according to the grant agreement.

Following project plan submission, the executive administrator will provide a letter of approval or request changes to the plan submitted. The executive administrator is that of the TWDB or a designated representative, the grant agreement states. Upon project plan approval, TWDB will provide Guadalupe County with a 25% advance of the approved project plan budget.
