Creative space The Pony to serve up authentic pizza, cocktails, live music

The Pony will be more than a place to eat and have a drink, said Jessica Madsen, co-owner of the venue. She called the space an art bar/restaurant hybrid that is unique to the city of Denton.

The overview: The space will not only have authentic pizza, appetizers, desserts and cocktail options, but will also be a live music venue on the weekends.

The Pony will also offer small-scale pottery classes and handmade jewelry and artwork from local artists for sale by the front door.

“Our pillars are pizza, pottery, cocktails and live music,” Madsen said. "Our kids are artists, and we were really inspired by the way they were living their lives so freely.”

Looking ahead: The space still is being retrofitted with the final touches, but Madsen said they are aiming for a mid-July opening. She added that there will be a grand opening event that will be posted on The Pony’s social media.

Staff at the Maurices location in the Denton Crossing shopping center confirmed that Buckle will take over the space later this year.

Maurices will continue to operate until August, store staff said.

The overview: The new Buckle store will start construction in early September, according to a filing with the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation.

Buckle offers clothing and accessories in its roughly 440 locations in the United States, according to the company’s website.

The store will operate in the existing 5,029-square-foot space where women's clothing store Maurice's currently operates. The space will undergo $600,000 in renovations to accommodate the Buckle store, according to the TDLR filing.

GALLERY: Pickle City USA hosts grand opening celebration in north Fort Worth

Pickle City USA held a grand opening celebration and a ribbon-cutting ceremony June 10 in north Fort Worth.

The details: Pickle City USA has 16 pickleball courts, with 10 indoor and six outdoor courts. The full-service gym features equipment and wellness amenities such as a sauna, red light therapy and cold plunge, said Hannah McKeever, head of membership and corporate sales.

The Bench, a sports bar inside the facility, is open to the public, as well as the pro shop, regardless of membership, she said.

The background: The original grand opening celebration was set for Jan. 31, but was postponed due to Winter Storm Fern.

All the events planned for that day, including an acoustic performance by country music artist Chris Cagle, still happened on June 10.

Before the concert started, McKeever said there were about 600 guests at the facility.
