A new Roadtrac gas station and convenience store location has opened in the ArchPoint at 1485 retail center, said Saqib Ali, president of project developer ArchPoint Ventures, via email Sept. 1.

A closer look: Roadtrac has gas stations and convenience stores across the Greater Houston area and a few locations in other areas of Texas, according to the company’s website. Customers of the business can fuel up their vehicle and purchase food and drinks from the convenience store.

Stay tuned: ArchPoint at 1485 features 14,000 square feet in retail space, as previously reported by Community Impact. The center will be home to other businesses, including a psychiatry office, a mattress store, a salon and an insurance office, Ali said.

Career and technical education programs at New Caney ISD have grown and become more popular in recent years—with participation among NCISD’s ninth-twelfth graders outranking the state average since at least 2021, Texas Education Agency data shows.

In a nutshell: In the 2024-25 school year, the most recent year data was available, 86% of NCISD’s high school students took CTE classes while the state average was 74%, according to the TEA. 

Meanwhile, multiple new NCISD CTE facilities have either recently opened or will open soon for the growing programs.

As NCISD’s CTE programs have grown, the district’s performance in state evaluations have also risen. Annually, the TEA grades school districts with “College, Career, and Military Readiness” scores, which measure how well high school graduates are prepared for higher education, the workforce or the military, according to the agency’s website.

In 2025-26, NCISD outranked state performance for the second year, by 6 percentage points, with a score of 93%, according to the TEA.

Two candidates are vying for Congressional District 2 in the upcoming Nov. 3 general election.

Meet the candidates: Republican Steve Toth will face Democrat Shaun Finnie in the race for U.S. House District 2, which covers portions of the communities of New Caney, Porter, Conroe, The Woodlands, Spring, Cy-Fair and the Lake Houston area.

Toth is currently a state representative for District 15, and won the Republican primary in March against three candidates, including incumbent Dan Crenshaw. Finnie is an oil and gas investment banker in The Woodlands.

Something to note: Candidates were asked to keep responses under 50 words, answer the questions provided and avoid attacking opponents. Answers may have been edited or cut to adhere to those guidelines, or for style and clarity.

Houston approved $129.9 million for seven infrastructure projects at George Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The overview: The projects include aircraft parking, employee parking, stormwater detention, utility improvements and pedestrian bridge repairs.

The city also authorized an agreement with United Airlines to deliver the work. The entire project will cost $229.9 million and Houston will reimburse United Airlines. The first payment of $129.9 million will be disbursed in fiscal year 2026-27. The remaining $100 million will be paid out in FY 2027-28. Funding will come from airport funds.

City officials said international travel at IAH has increased as the airport saw a record of 12.4 million international travelers in 2025. That international demand, along with an expanding route map, underscores the need for infrastructure.

Design and construction are expected over the next three years, officials said.

Also of note: Under the agreement, United will manage development and construction. Houston Airports will reimburse approved project costs from airport system funds and recover those costs through rates and charges paid by airlines and other airport users, including United.

The office of Gov. Greg Abbott announced a $138 billion investment in Texas transportation infrastructure, including projects in the Greater Houston region, according to an Aug. 27 news release from the Texas Department of Transportation.

The Unified Transportation Program for 2026 was approved during an August meeting of the Texas Transportation Commission.

The breakdown: The program’s funding is divided into two portions, $95 billion for transportation projects across the state, and $43 billion which is reserved for routine maintenance and development. The total of $138 billion is intended to be spent on projects and maintenance over the next 10 years, according to the news release.

Here are some of the plans for the 2027 UTP:

• The North Houston Highway Improvement Project continues to be a priority for the Houston District, with several projects planned within the first four years of the UTP.
