Abbie Kamin reflects on time as Houston City Council member at last meeting

District C council member Abbie Kamin began the May 20 City Council meeting by thanking her son and husband for their support during her time on council.

“Oftentimes when we have people that are willing to serve as electeds, I thank them also for their family service,” she said while holding her son. “And today I get to thank my family.”

What happened: Kamin attended her final meeting as a City Council member as she prepares to become the interim Harris County attorney.

During the meeting, each council member and Mayor John Whitmire thanked her for her time on council and shared memories of their work with her.

“I think [public service] is a calling and you have definitely answered that calling each and every day as a council member,” Whitmire said. “And I know you’ll do it going forward.”

What’s next: Kamin’s official last day as council member is May 26, and new council member Joe Panzarella will be sworn in May 27.
