What to know about Leander, Cedar Park Juneteenth Block Party

The cities of Leander and Cedar Park are hosting a joint Juneteenth Block Party at Robin Bledsoe Park on June 19 from 5 to 9 p.m.

Before you go: The party will be free to attend and family-friendly, city communications staff said.

Parking will be available at the park and neighboring North Austin Pediatrics, according to the city of Leander’s website. When those lots fill up, overflow parking will be available at Camacho Elementary School, with transportation provided between the overflow parking lot and the event.

The event: A “fun zone” for kids, live art, food vendors and a basketball tournament will be open from 5 to 9 p.m, according to the website. The park’s pool and splash pad will also be open.

A series of musical performances and speeches by local elected officials will begin at 6 p.m.

Cedar Park Whole Foods Market set for 8,000-square-foot expansion

The Whole Foods Market in Cedar Park is expanding, according to a spokesperson for the company.

The details: The store will expand into existing adjacent space, adding about 8,000 square feet, the spokesperson said. The neighboring storefronts are currently vacant, including a former Talbots Outlet. The new space will be used for both additional sales floor and back-of-house areas.

There are no plans to close the store during the renovations, the spokesperson said.

As of the time of publication, Whole Foods Market had not responded to a request for more information on the expansion timeline.

City of Austin delivers proclamation amid Peace Family Housing Project’s groundbreaking

Peace Lutheran Church is developing a $1.2 million transitional housing facility in Northwest Austin to expand resources for families facing homelessness, food insecurity and instability in the community.

Peace Family Housing Project, along with its nonprofit partners HomeAid Austin and Foundation for the Homeless, hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for the project on June 9.

Learn more: The facility will include four apartments, which can house a maximum of six families at a time for a 30-90 day stay.

In addition to housing, families will also receive help with case management, limited financial assistance and connections to community resources for services such as mental health care, said Monte Osburn, executive director of Foundation for the Homeless.

The new housing project is only the second of its kind in the region, according to Lynne Williams, executive director of HomeAid Austin.
