Fee waivers for repairs due to a catastrophic event were approved by The Woodlands Township board of directors July 16, solidifying a plan that officials said will bring some relief to those dealing with cleanup after a natural disaster or similar event.

The backstory: The board previously approved updates to the Covenant Administration Department, or CAD, fees, effective July 1. Most of the fee changes impact commercial improvements as well as two minor adjustments to residential fees. The waiver policy was suggested to help protect owners of residential and commercial property who experience damage or destruction to permitted improvements during natural disasters.

Two businesses at Market Street in The Woodlands are now closed, Market Street officials confirmed on July 16.

The details: Nike and Pressed Juicery are no longer operating at the shopping center, at Ste. 885 and Ste. 1070, respectively.

What's next: Market Street officials said they do not yet have announcements for new businesses in the spaces as of July 16.

On July 21, Conroe ISD’s board of trustees will discuss a report by the CISD School Health Advisory Council, or SHAC, and a draft of district priorities for the 90th Texas Legislature. 

The gist: According to its website, SHAC was founded to “ensure that community values and health issues are reflected in the district's health and physical education instruction.” The council's priorities for CISD include students' physical and mental health. 

The upcoming report will be a summary of the work the council has done this past school year and a possible look into what's next for the district for the 2026-27 school year. 

CISD will also review info on the priorities, outline and timeline before the 90th Texas Legislature. The session officially convenes Jan. 12, 2027, to discuss and vote on issues regarding education and state spending, among other topics.

As previously reported, CISD is currently undergoing many changes within the district, the biggest being the increase in the special education student population. 

Oak Ridge North City Council approved the modification of a sales tax preservation agreement with Townsen Memorial Surgery Center on July 13, after project representatives discovered inaccuracies in the previously estimated square footage of the center’s expansion.

What you need to know: The incentive was originally $73,000 per year to be paid to the city in lieu of sales tax for five years, applicable to Townsen’s currently operating Building B.

Sarah McClure, Oak Ridge North’s director of economic development and community programming, explained to the council on Monday that this amount was based on their initial size estimate of 18,329 square feet for the building’s expansion.

However, upon further examination of the plans in the permitting process, McClure confirmed the building will actually occupy 19,686 square feet.

Another detail: Also at the July 13 meeting, council members approved a separate sales tax preservation agreement involving a secondary building on the east side of Townsen’s property, Building C.
