Northern curve softening added to Ammann Road reconstruction project

In 2027, both the southern and northern sharp corners of Ammann Road in Fair Oaks Ranch are planned to be softened during the road reconstruction project. Fair Oaks Ranch City Council on April 2 approved an agreement with Kendall County to soften the northern sharp curve near the upcoming elevated water storage tank.

The details: The Ammann Road Reconstruction project is funded through 2024 bonds approved by Fair Oaks Ranch voters. An interlocal agreement April 2 includes the northern curve in the project, softening all of the sharp corners of Ammann Road within the Fair Oaks Ranch city limits.

Public Works Director Grant Watanabe said the agreement would have the county and city split the cost of the curve softening, which is expected to total $300,000. Upon completion, the city will maintain the road within city limits, while the county maintains the road outside of city limits. City staff said the project is expected to begin in early 2027.

Check out 5 transportation projects shaping the Northern San Antonio Metro

Around San Antonio, transportation projects are underway or in development, causing traffic delays as roads expand and improve to handle traffic demands. Here are five transportation projects across the northern areas of the metro.

I-10 and Loop 1604 interchange project: Part of the Loop 1604 North Expansion Project, the Loop 1604 and I-10 interchange project will consist of eight flyover ramps, roundabouts, a high-occupancy vehicle lane and other interchange improvements, according to the Texas Department of Transportation. TxDOT opened the eighth and final flyover ramp Feb. 5, connecting westbound Loop 1604 to westbound I-10. Known as Segment 2, the interchange is 65% done.

FM 1518: Traffic on FM 1518 between I-10 and the Woman Hollering Creek bridge shifted to the east in March. In April, TxDOT began drainage installations at Ray Corbett Drive and other road sections. During construction, two-way traffic along FM 1518 will be maintained. This configuration is expected to be in place until winter 2026.
