Officials behind a proposed residential development in East McKinney will seek zoning approval from McKinney City Council in August.

In a nutshell: Council members are scheduled to consider and vote Aug. 4 on a zoning case for the development near the Old Settler’s Recreation Center. StreetLights Residential is proposing a mix of for-rent and for-sale townhomes alongside traditional multifamily buildings on nearly 18 acres.

The property is currently zoned for a mix of single-family development and agricultural uses. Developers are seeking approval of a “Mixed Residential” zoning to accommodate the proposed project. McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission voted 5-2 during a July 14 meeting to recommend approval.

Also on the agenda: Council members are also scheduled to consider a site plan for a proposed mosque at the corner of Virginia Parkway and Crutcher Crossing.

The McKinney Islamic Association is proposing construction of three buildings totaling 32,573 square feet, according to a letter of intent. McKinney’s Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously recommended approval of the site plan on July 14.

CommonGood Medical is now offering health care services from a new location in McKinney.

The gist: The faith-based nonprofit organization, which was founded in 2016, offers free primary medical care to eligible uninsured and low-income Collin County residents. The organization has offered care from a roughly 4,000-square-foot space at 103 E. Lamar St. in downtown McKinney since 2019, with a mix of on-staff employees and medical providers as well as volunteers.

The update: The organization's new clinic space spans about 9,000 square feet and includes six exam rooms, CommonGood Medical Director of Development Daniel Moreno said. Additional phases of build-out at the facility are expected to add an on-site imaging center that will offer mammograms, X-rays and sonography.

Also of note: CommonGood Thrift, the social enterprise arm of the nonprofit organization, is set to launch later this year. The revenue collected from sales at the thrift store will be used to support clinic operations.

More than 150 restaurants throughout the Dallas-Fort Worth area will take part in the 30th annual DFW Restaurant Week.

The gist: The event officially runs from Aug. 10 to Sept. 7, however, some restaurants will do a preview weekend Aug. 6-9, according to the DFW Restaurant Week website. The culinary event will feature prix fixe menu dining options ranging from $29 to $99, with 20% of the cost donated to the North Texas Food Bank or Lena Pope in Tarrant County. Lena Pope offers mental health options, counseling, substance abuse counseling and early learning centers, according to its website.

By the numbers: Restaurants in Dallas raised $505,235 for North Texas Food Bank, while restaurants in Tarrant County raised $176,092 for Lena Pope, according to the website.

The details: Restaurant Week launches Aug. 10-16, but many restaurants will extend the special menu through Labor Day, according to the website. Participating eateries are located in Dallas, Tarrant, Collin, Denton and Rockwall counties.

1. Prosper Trail construction
Project: Prosper Trail will undergo a full pavement reconstruction from Coit Road to Custer Road. The new pavement section will be a four-lane concrete divided roadway.
