Pathways Village to provide affordable housing for homeless adults in New Braunfels

NB Housing Partners, a nonprofit organization that works to create affordable housing opportunities for individuals in New Braunfels, is looking to open a transitional housing community for adults preparing to pay market-rate rent in the city.

About the project: The development—named Pathways Village—would be located off Churchill Drive and Loop 337 in New Braunfels. Pathways Village is designed to provide short-term housing, but NB Housing Partners is also planning to offer long-term housing on the property for individuals making 80% or less of the average median income, said Kellie Stallings, executive director of NB Housing Partners. 

Stallings said Pathways Village is meant to be a supportive community environment, which is why they have added the word village' to the name. The community will have 50 units with one- to two-bedroom options to serve between 50 and 55 people.

What's next? Stallings said the project is a massive expense and that it will take several years to raise the money for it. NB Housing Partners hopes to begin construction for Pathways Village in 2027.

Ollie's Bargain Outlet now open in New Braunfels

Ollie's Bargain Outlet—a discount retailer—opened its doors Oct. 9 at 139 I-35 S. in New Braunfels. 

Some details: Ollie's Bargain Outlet sells surplus inventory and closeout merchandise purchased from other store, resulting in discounted prices.

The retailer purchases goods from big brand manufacturers across the globe, often getting refurbished items and irregular merchandise, according to its website.

What they offer: Ollie’s Bargain Outlet sells a wide range of snacks, canned or dry food, clothing and mattresses. The store also sells home goods and office supplies.

Check out these new restaurants and bars opening across the San Antonio area.

Elsewhere Too has officially opened its new hybrid location on San Antonio’s North Side.

Owned by Terrin Fuhrmann, the new bar and event venue is the business's second in the Alamo City, with The Elsewhere Garden & Bar being an anchor near the River Walk.

The new mixed outdoor venue has outdoor seating, “Instagrammable” decor and a 53-foot-tall Ferris wheel, Fuhrmann said.

Elsewhere is known for its cocktails, craft beer and bar food such as burgers, sandwiches and Philly cheesesteak fries, according to their website.

While Tex-Mex and breakfast tacos are abundant throughout San Antonio, Jose Castellanos, owner of Pollo Picosito in Live Oak, said he wanted to put his own twist on the tried-and-true cuisine.

Hailing from Guadalajara, Mexico, Castellanos said he has been in the restaurant and hospitality business for 45 years, managing and owning a variety of eateries for decades.

Castellanos said the main priorities of his restaurant are simple—breakfast tacos in the morning, then puffy tacos and enchiladas for lunch.

“The people of San Antonio love breakfast tacos. Whenever I leave here for a couple days, I already start to miss them myself,” Castellanos said.

Home sales increase in Schertz, Selma year over year, data shows

Year over year, the number of homes sold decreased in the 78108, 78148 and 78233 ZIP codes but increased in the 78154 ZIP code, according to data from the San Antonio Board of Realtors.

Some details: The average price of homes listed for sale in the Northeast San Antonio Metro area over the past six months were between $275,000-$358,000. In September, year-over-year median home prices increased in the 78154 ZIP code but decreased in the 78108, 78148 and 78233 ZIP codes.
