Allen to consider $659K contract for water, sewer project at July 14 meeting

Members of Allen City Council will discuss approving contracts for water and sewer improvements, bridge repairs and more at an upcoming meeting.

Allen City Council will meet at 6 p.m. July 14 for a work session, with a regular meeting to follow at 7 p.m.

The specifics: Council members will consider approval of a $659,248 contract with Freese and Nichols for survey and engineering services related to several water and sanitary sewer improvement projects. The project involves about 18,565 linear feet of water lines and about 8,320 linear feet of sewer lines across six different locations, including Allen’s Extra Territorial Jurisdiction, Whisenant Estates, Greenville Avenue and three creek crossings, per city documents.

The details: Construction is expected to begin in September and wrap up in early December. The 2,916-square-foot renovation project is expected to cost $180,000.

Upcoming projects

1. Laud Howell Parkway extension

Project: Construction will build two lanes of Laud Howell Parkway between Trinity Falls Parkway and Lake Forest Drive. Private development firm Republic Property Group is constructing Lanes 1 and 2 of the roadway, and the city will construct Lanes 3 and 4.

Update: McKinney City Council approved a design contract with LJA Engineering in June, and design is underway. Construction of Lanes 1 and 2 by Republic Property Group is already underway.

  • Timeline: Design is expected to take about 12 months to complete. Construction of Lanes 3 and 4 is expected to begin in 2028.
  • Cost: $18 million
  • Funding source: city of McKinney, Federal Surface Transportation Block Grant funds

Taiwan-based Lite-On announces $919M manufacturing facility coming to McKinney

Lite-On Technology Corp., a global manufacturing company that specializes in semiconductor components is building a manufacturing facility in McKinney.

The big picture: The company selected McKinney for a new advanced manufacturing facility in North America, according to a news release from McKinney Economic Development Corp. The $919 million project is expected to create at least 600 jobs over the next several years, making it one of the largest private investments in McKinney history, the news release states.

Lite-On is spending $108.5 million to acquire existing industrial space at the Core5 Logistics Center in McKinney, according to a news release from Lite-On. The investment will “further strengthen” the company’s North American presence, the news release states.

Quote of note: “McKinney is a community that shares our values of hard work, innovation, and opportunity, and we are honored to be part of its future,” Lite-On Chairman Tom Soong said in a statement. “The strong support from the city of McKinney and the state of Texas made this investment possible, and we are deeply grateful for their partnership.”
