Lewisville ISD could change start, end times for 2026-27 school year

Lewisville ISD middle and high school campuses may change their start times, and all schools could lengthen the school day for the 2026-27 school year, following a report from district Chief of Staff Shawna Miller at a Jan. 6 board work session.

LISD had 15 middle schools and 10 high schools, according to its website.

The impact: Currently, middle school runs from 8:55 a.m.-4:10 p.m., and high school runs from 8:20 a.m.-3:20 p.m. District staff proposed swapping the start times for middle and high school, following a survey from parents that supported the proposed time swap, giving high schools the later start time.

Miller said the district may also add 10 minutes to the school day to give the district additional minutes for bad weather days and to give staff more time for work and professional development and planning.

The overview: The Harmony Online Learning program includes dozens of courses aligned with the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills standards, all of which are self-paced, according to a news release.

More details: Students can choose from dozens of courses in core subjects, electives, Advanced Placement and Career and Technical Education, according to the program’s website.
