Multicity police task force launches to fight auto theft in Central Texas

Round Rock City Council unanimously approved an interlocal agreement Jan. 22 to join a regional task force aimed at reducing vehicle-related crimes across Central Texas.

The setup: The agreement brings Round Rock together with the cities of Hutto, Cedar Park, Georgetown, Leander and Pflugerville, along with Williamson County, to create a Regional Vehicle Burglary Suppression Taskforce.

The task force will focus on investigating auto thefts, vehicle burglaries and catalytic converter thefts through coordinated, multiagency enforcement efforts.

Assistant Police Chief Tom Sloan told council members the agreement formalizes cooperation that already occurs among neighboring jurisdictions, noting that many vehicle crime suspects operate across city boundaries.

“A lot of Round Rock suspects do not live in Round Rock,” Sloan said. “They live elsewhere. By approving this interlocal agreement, we can work together to better address catalytic converter thefts, auto thefts and vehicle burglaries.”

Jack Allen’s serves up something for everyone in Hutto, Round Rock

Jack Allen’s serves up something for everyone in Hutto, Round Rock

Sixteen years ago, Jack Allen Gilmore worked as a corporate chef and Tom Kamm as the director of operations for a local chain of restaurants. The pair traveled frequently for work and after 20 years at the same company, they ventured out to grow a unique family of restaurants in the Austin area.

“We were just inspired to ... touch local ingredients, local farmers, local brewers, local distillers, local cheese makers [and] local coffee roasters,” Kaam said.

The background: Gilmore and Kamm met with investors and found a spot for the first Jack Allen’s Kitchen in summer 2009.

On the menu: The menu features a selection of salads, seafood, chicken-fried meats, tacos, enchiladas, burgers and desserts. One of the “Jak Originals” is a pesto-marinated crab stuffed chicken, which is a grilled chicken breast stuffed with blue crab, red bell peppers and jack cheese, a potato cake, vegetables and cajun cream sauce.
