United Athletic Conference basketball tournaments to tip off in Allen next March

Student athletes and basketball fans from across the country will travel to Allen next spring.

The Credit Union of Texas Event Center in Allen has been selected host the United Athletic Conference men’s and women’s basketball tournaments for the next three years beginning in 2027, according to an Aug. 20 news release.

The details: From March 10-14, eight men’s and eight women’s teams will compete in conference championship games, the release states.

“The event will welcome hundreds of student-athletes, coaches, officials and conference staff, along with alumni, families and fans traveling from across Texas and the country,” Allen Communications Manager Kristi Soto said in an email.

The Melting Pot now offering fondue in Allen’s Watters Creek Village

An Allen location of The Melting Pot is now open and offering an interactive dining experience.

Restaurant officials, city leaders and community members celebrated the opening during an Aug. 19 ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The specifics: The eatery, which is located in Watters Creek Village, offers a signature four-course dining experience featuring both cheese and chocolate fondue courses. The Allen location features a full-service bar, a “Lovers Lane” with semi-private booths for two people, and a private event room, a news release states.

Quote of note: “It's always a joy to welcome new businesses here to Allen because they just bring a sense of energy,” Allen Mayor Chris Schulmeister said at the Aug. 19 event. “It brings new jobs ... and that's a good thing, and for The Melting Pot, it brings a new dining experience, not just for the people that live in Allen but the people that visit Allen.”

Utsav Indian Cuisine & Bar opens new Frisco restaurant

Utsav Indian Cuisine & Bar has opened a new restaurant in Frisco.

The restaurant opened its doors Aug. 14 and offers south and north Indian cuisine, featuring kebabs, fried rice and noodle dishes, biryani dishes, vegetarian and non-vegetarian curry dishes, soups and mandis. The restaurant also features a full-service bar and lounge, serving specialty cocktails and beers.

The Frisco location marks Utsav Indian Cuisine & Bar’s second operating restaurant in North Texas, with a Coppell location open since May.

Dessert shop Cookie Society is coming soon to Richardson, owner Jeff Allen confirmed in an email.

Allen said the new location will “offer the full Cookie Society experience,” including the shop’s freshly-baked classic cookies, monthly rotating flavors and other dessert favorites like brownies and oatmeal cream pies.

“We’re especially excited about this location because it gives us an opportunity to serve the Richardson community, UTD students and staff and the surrounding neighborhoods,” Allen said. “Cookie Society is a family business here in North Texas, so continuing to grow throughout DFW is always special for us.”

Cookie Society currently operates locations in Prosper, Frisco, Southlake, Addison and Mansfield, and Allen said the Richardson location aims to open later this year.
