League City is making a $4 million investment to build a detention pond near the Oaks Clear Creek neighborhood, located west of Highway 3.

What residents should know: League City City Council voted unanimously at its July 28 meeting to award nearly $4 million in combined contracts to engineering firm UES Professional Solutions 44 and Houston-based contractor iCON GC for the second phase of drainage improvements for the Oaks of Clear Creek neighborhood.

The local impact: Council member Tommy Cones said at the meeting he’d received three calls about walkability near the area and asked city staff to look into building a walking trail near the detention pond.

The timeline: The project is expected to be completed in spring 2027, per city documents.

Family owned Fiamo Pizza will open in League City this summer, according to the city of League City's biz briefs.

The details: The menu will offer fire-crafted artisanal pizzas featuring house-made dough, as well as pasta and sandwiches.

A new laundry pickup and delivery service is now serving customers across the Greater Houston area. LaundryGrab opened in early 2026 and is aimed at helping busy residents who would rather spend time with their families than do laundry.

How it works: The delivery-only service allows customers to place orders online or via the company's app. According to a July 27 emailed statement, workers then collect the laundry from the residents' doorstep, wash and fold or dry clean the items and then deliver them back within a 24- to 48- hour timeframe. Pickup and delivery are free. Services include:

• Dry cleaning

• Cleaning household and event linens such as comforters, bedding, sheets, towels and tablecloths

• Same-day service for urgent orders

Starting rates for a wash and fold service are set at approximately $3.95 per pound. Dry cleaning is priced per garment, starting at $2.95 per item.

This summer, Texas is launching a new process to study the viability of data centers and other large projects seeking to connect to the state’s power grid. The process’ strict requirements could deter major industrial projects from coming to the state, experts warn.

The overview: The Electric Reliability Commission of Texas’ new "batch study process" will require that large projects be evaluated in groups, rather than individually. The process was developed in response to Texas’ data center boom.

What they're saying: All projects that would use at least 75 megawatts of electricity will be required to participate in the batch process—including industrial and hydrogen production facilities. However, industrial and manufacturing projects operate differently from data centers and may not be able to meet some of the batch requirements, industry representatives said July 29.

In a state that works to attract major companies and bills itself as business-friendly, that’s a concern, lawmakers said.

"Where are y'all at on trying to differentiate those types of traditional, enterprise, big commercial, large load projects?" Sen. Phil King, R-Weatherford, asked.
