League City residents will have an opportunity to offer input on the city’s proposed $333 million budget and $0.36355 tax rate per $100 valuation of a home for fiscal year 2026-27 at League City City Council’s Aug. 25 meeting.

Digging deeper: League City City Council voted unanimously at its Aug. 11 meeting to propose the no-new-revenue rate. If approved, it will be the 12th consecutive year the city’s property tax rate has decreased.

Also of note: The city is proposing a $333 million budget, with public safety as the single largest operational cost, according to city documents.

Stay tuned: The council will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 25 at Council Chambers, located at 200 W. Walker St., League City.

Biomedical science, aerospace engineering, culinary arts, media production and dentistry are a handful of specialty programs Clear Creek ISD offers to students to prepare them for their interests they may pursue after graduation.

At a glance: Career and technical education, or CTE, enrollment has increased from over 12,450 students in 2016 to over 17,000 in 2026, CCISD’s CTE Director Dana Morgan said. The highest-enrolled CTE career pathways are health science, engineering and business administration, respectively, Morgan said.

“These pathways closely align with the workforce demands of the local labor market,” she said.

Diving in deeper: CTE programs are a key component of CCISD’s College, Career and Military Readiness, or CCMR, efforts by preparing students for postsecondary education, military service and the workforce. Morgan said the district’s CTE program strives to benefit students regardless of whether they choose to attend college, enter the workforce immediately after high school, enlist in the military or pursue a combination of these pathways.

Harris County commissioners are slated to discuss debt service payments, planning studies and capital improvements at its Aug. 25 business court meeting.

At a glance: The court will consider about $235.6 million in debt service payments for September and October, per the agenda. The payments will cover Harris County road bonds, permanent improvement bonds, Harris County Flood Control District bonds and Flood Contract Tax bonds. 

In other news: Three planning studies will also be up for discussion during the Aug. 25 meeting. Harris County Housing and Community Development is requesting $150,000 for the Resilience Hubs study, which will evaluate the creation of community spaces to provide daily and disaster response services. The other two studies, which the agenda does not provide details on, will look at projects in Precinct 4 and cost $1.4 million.

This November, Libertarian Ted Brown, Republican Ken Paxton and Democrat James Talarico are running to be Texas' next U.S. senator.

The overview: Each state has two U.S. senators serving staggered terms, with Ted Cruz and John Cornyn currently representing Texas. Cornyn ran for reelection but lost his primary race, and the winner of the November election will replace him in January.

Paxton advanced to the general election after beating Cornyn in a primary runoff, while Talarico beat two other contenders in the Democratic primary, Community Impact reported. Brown was selected as the Texas Libertarian Party's candidate during an April nominating convention.

At the polls: Early voting runs from Oct. 19-30 for dozens of statewide and local races. Election Day is Nov. 3.
